It's interesting to see him and Mathurin not get paid. The one back up wing that got extended this summer was Herb Jones, who singed a 3yr/$68m extension, in the summer.

Wonder if there is some self-reflection in those quotes from Giannis. If Bucks were smart, they need to have heart warming montage

Getting Eason for cheap would do a lot for my optimism this year.

Why would the Rockets give up Eason for cheap? We don't have much that they would want.

With Durant's extension, Houston is all but locked in as an apron team for the next few years. Makes sense that Eason is ultimately the guy they just can't afford, so yeah, this is why you just let the price drop naturally/let the market play out and don't overpay for these kinds of flier type dudes on the trade market.

I don't know why you guys keep saying this. The joke is that nobody around the league, probably even the Rockets front office, values Tari Eason as much as this board does. They're fully in win-now mode at this point and still have a glut of wings. They dumped Cam Whitmore for nothing this offseason and gave DFS a $50 million contract. Writing is on the wall that Eason, with his durability issues, is the odd man out.

I guess what is considered cheap? Are we talking picks? Trading for a guard or center?

There's something to be said for riding it out in a win-now season (Half our guys are 1 year or 1+PO). He may be their 8-9th man, but if a few guys go down, they will appreciate the depth/ability to have different match-ups in the playoffs.

Kuzma, ‘31 1st for Eason and FVV.

Houston is now pushed up against the 1st apron. This deal cuts their salary by 8 million giving them ample breathing room. Kuzma is a live body whose salary will be lower than FVV’s next year as well. They both expire at the same time.

FVV tore his acl, and seems pretty likely to never be the same player again. We cough up a first for a very good, albeit oft injured, young player who Houston doesn’t want to pay.

Tari can be an essential part of our new identity, and this still gives us 2 1sts and a swap to pair with better salary (Bobby) at the draft.

On one hand I obviously love the idea of turning Kuzma's corpse into Eason. On the other hand, expending the best asset we have and neutering our maximum trade package we can put out for a legit All-Star difference-maker while also eating FVV's bad salary for two years......not ideal. You basically have to convince yourself that Eason is like, the next Mikal Bridges, and while I still love his archetype, I'm not willing to go that far. Maybe a pick swap to reroute FVV and get a legit rotation player back is something worth exploring.

I doubt Houston will part with anything at the moment. They need to stash assets for Giannis should he hit the market later in the year.

But yes, Eason would be a catch. He’d help us out a lot. And maybe take a step forward playing with Giannis and a defined role.

I do understand though why Eason and Mathurin didn’t get deals. Both guys tease potential to be $30+ million a year guys but neither has been able to establish it.

Eason basically is the player that they're trying to convince Kuzma he needs to be. Would be a great get, ignoring cost.

MKE In: Eason, Monk,

SAC Out: Monk, Devin Carter
SAC In: Kuzma, Jeff Green (waived), 2032 MIL pick swap

Devil's advocate: our picks/swaps would be that much more valuable to the Bucks if we do need to trade Giannis.

Not sure how that'd come into play with these two teams.

But more broadly I could see teams planning to make a serious pitch for Giannis disproportionately valuing any future first the Bucks have in the wind or on the market.

With our new style of play, on both ends, I'm far less interested in Eason than I was, or anything true SF for that matter. We're going to be switching everything 1-3, so 3 guard lineups will be appropriate, while providing the best 3 point shooting.

Eason fits best as a 4, with Giannis at the 5, and I just don't think that's a priority now that we have a viable player at center.

Eason can guard 1-4 and the Bucks need defenders. Eason as Giannis back up is great especially since Portis will be the back up 5. The Bucks need wings to match Jalen, Franz, Paolo, Brown, Giddey, Matas, Disaster, and even Cade.

Yeah, Eason's pretty much the perfect fit for what we're trying to do right now. Slots in perfectly at either the 3 or 4, can switch and guard up or down a position, and can reliably space the floor. The rub on him is that his offensive ceiling is pretty much capped as an off-ball shooter and transition player.

And swapping Brook for Turner didn't all of a sudden solve our switch-ability issues on defense, unless people forgot that the Pacers essentially benched Turner in their Finals closing lineup? Hell, Doc could even run Eason out there at SG like he stupidly did with Prince, and we'd probably still be fine defensively since he's so versatile. So a bonus benefit of "Doc proofing" the roster as best we can as well.

Eason shot 34% from 3 last year, his career average. I like him, but one of the weaknesses is he doesn't reliably stretch the floor.

Restricted free agents are screwed. Just because someone says they're available, doesn't make it so.
