It's a testament to Thon's optimism (err delusion) that he actually managed to pull a pretty good playoff series w/ Toronto out of his bony butt. That makes him a major overachiever in my eyes, given his lack of coordination, mind for the game, and pre-pro performance. Not the MVP like he thought, but not the historically high standard for epic fails of Bucks' picks like Potsie and what DJ is on pace to be. He's more Marcus Haislip or Rashad Vaughn territory.
When Thon was drafted, it elicited serious anger from me. I edited out some of the nastier, bigger picture stuff shortly after. LED may have indeed humbled themselves a little after they bombed for a few years, treating this like their fantasy team. We'll see, but it's been a more sensible few months. They really didn't have to do a lot with the ready-made core. Just fill in around mostly w/ appropriate complements. Makes such a difference to have shooting surrounding Giannis and a 6-9 who consistently look like they belong on an NBA roster unlike the Thons of the world. And of course having a competent coach unlike JK and disciple.

There are some truly hilarious takes in this thread. Just spent a half hour re-reading.
Highly recommend it.

I think there's still small hope he could develop into something modestly decent. Here's why:
1) There was a TON of really genuine-sounding compliments etc coming from his teammates about his potential and his play in practice etc. This suggests that there still may be untapped potential.
2) He's a hard worker, keen. Which matters.
3) Bigs can take several years to develop, and he was SUPER raw when he came in. It's totally possible he could turn a corner late this year.
4) Bud. He has a real coach for the first time in his career. We're seeing what a massive impact coaching can have- why not for Thon too? Plus, being used correctly in a good system with a clear role could do a lot to hide his flaws and maximize his talents.
I don't expect all of KGs wildest dreams about Thon to come true, but I

Not calling anyone out because no one knew what the hell was going on, but some of my faves from the first 15 pages. And god bless AussieBuck for trying so hard to convince us Thon was 19 because he said so.
To be fair, there's a ton of guys here trying to convince themselves.

But since I couldn't post this for five minutes, I have to admit to myself that Hammond has gone out on a limb before and nailed it. Thon Maker is a very intriguing prospect. But I loved the Giannis pick. I hate this pick. This is the second straight year the Bucks have taken a guy I don't even view as a first rounder.

We made these rationalizations after Joe Alexander was selected, so we weren't completely dejected afterward.

I'm the first person in the history of the internet to do actual offline investigating to ruin my own argument and I'm getting called out by you and have midranger giving and ones to my original quotes before I got all the info. You guys are special.
