Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
An appealing game or two is significantly more important to me than whatever upgrade the specs are getting from 4 to 5. There hasn't been a draw in that regard, from either system, dating back to PS2. I can't spend that type of money on a system where I'd only play 2 or 3 sports games. Hoping there will be something appealing to hook me because I've wanted to pull the trigger on past generations, but no dice.

Interesting. You've missed some incredible ones across all genres.
As for the PS5, I'll probably get it.

Played some of them and watched along as others played new IPs, I just never got hooked by them. Also, modern video games on consoles generally give me fairly bad nausea, so that kind of sucks. Counter Strike and Starcraft 2, probably the best game ever created IMO, did a nice job of filling the console void.

Does anyone have a gaming laptop? I travel pretty frequently (8-10 times a year) and I have a lot of friends who game on PC. Was looking into maybe picking one up around $1,000-1,500.

The best advice I've seen on BL3 is save all your side missions until you beat the game. Then play them in the Mayhem mode because they scale to you. I've got like 30 missions/bounties to run through now and they're all great. Plus they obviously give level appropriate rewards.

I do. Mine is in the 'portable' segment, I guess you'd call it, so it's not one of the thicker ones that is a bit more loaded. That said, sounds like it would make more sense for you anyways since it would travel with you.

This is what I have. I can't recommend it enough. I absolutely love it. The worst part are the speakers, but they aren't horrible.
ETA: Oh hey, did you ever upgrade your GPU?

I wish I had the personal restraint to do this. I'm too OCD to let something go.

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
Overwatch came out on Switch today, I actually pre-ordered it and I'm pretty stoked to play tonight.
People on reddit are melting down over having to download a patch day 1 after pre-loading the game. It's insane, people suck.

Back in my day we had to make due with our terrible games with no patches. We'd be lucky to make money from them by selling them back to funcoland.jschligs wrote:Overwatch came out on Switch today, I actually pre-ordered it and I'm pretty stoked to play tonight.

Anyone applied all the Borderlands 3 updates? I haven't as yet and my son and I are playing CO-OP together. I've noticed that whenever there is lost loot that I grab from the machine it is coming out level 48-50 but only when I play CO-OP. I'm level 40. I'm using it to horde some good blue/purple weapons for the moment I reach level 50.

Yeah they released it the day of their big Halloween patch. I generally don't like FPS games on consoles, but the tilt controls help somewhat. I'll probably try it next time there's a free weekend or something. Handheld Overwatch would be pretty awesome.

Fortnite is what it is but I have to say throwing you into a match immediately after the cutscene is awesome.

BL3 can be had for about $34 at target and amazon atm. Really considering giving it a try at this price, the comic book type graphics/color though isn’t my sort of style.

If you get into it $34 is a steal. Hell I think it was at the full price and I bought $40 worth of season pass DLC too.
That said I put it down this week. I got one character to 50, another around 41. Wanted to play something a little more chill so I picked The Witcher 3 back up for the first time in two years and played a bunch of that last night. Played through the opening area of White Orchard and did all the activities and found most of the secrets. Was thinking, "Yea, this is perfect. Nice and chill". Then I got to Velen and looked at the map and lol my god it's just so monstrous.

I bought witcher 3 complete sometime ago have yet to touch it mostly just play online games with friends. Nobody has BL3 though.
I think I might start TW3 when I get back from vacation (whats a good difficulty?), but I also expect most my friends to have bought COD (yuck) and because I’m a sucker and enjoy their company I too will likely buy it again and be disgusted.
I’m on fence with BL3, it looks like an enjoyable game. I really enjoyed the loot and shoot of the division, but with no friends to play to play with the honeymoon phase may end quicker than expected. I considered grabbing 2 copies and playing with my son but it may be a bit inappropriate for a 10 year old.

Playing BL3 with a full group of four is a blast, but the thing is you don't need actual speaking friends to enjoy it. There's nothing really tactical about it, so just getting three randos from matchmaking and blowing the hell out of everything is really pretty awesome.
As for TW3, I played on the default difficulty the first time around and this time I'm playing on the easiest just because I want to experience the INCREDIBLE story and side missions (all of them great and arguably better than the main quest line) with as little resistance as possible. That turns the game into more of a straight forward action game. To get the true Witcher experience you should play at least one level above default. That means you have to prepare oils for your swords, potions that deal with specific enemies, and use your signs that make certain tough enemies weaker. You also have to read and find clues for your hunts as well. It turns TW3 into a true hunting/detective kind of experience.

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
Take what I said about TW3 being chill and toss it out the window. So like I said I got to Velen last night and picked it up again this afternoon. I worked from home and I bet I've played it for eight hours, almost entirely on the Bloody Baron quest-line. I'm doing an optional mission after I completed the main quest (hadn't ever done it before) and the whole thing, as amazing as it is...it's exhausting and draining. The whole Bloody Baron quest could be an entire game.

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
So I started the free trial of PS Now (on PS4). I started with Golden Axe because haha I remember watching my older cousins play on Sega CD. Wow, games have come a long way. Switched over to Wolfenstein, seemed pretty cool, played through the intro, might come back later. Holy ****, Bioshock is on here. I remember playing through it by taking turns with my roommates in college. Load it up and the nostalgia is almost bringing me to tears.
And it's only been an hour. All while God of War downloads in the background.

...not gonna lie, I might pick up a Ring Fit Adventure after seeing the positive reviews/feedback it's gotten. Not as a replacement for running, actual yoga sessions, etc. - or even as I consider Orange Theory - but it sounds like a pretty seamless way to make sure you are doing at least something every day. And that's something I struggle with working from home, and want to do better at.
