Feels like the fact the last couple years of Dames contact are a whole lot of money for a very old player is really being ignored with the Dame trade rumors.

Like I get it's Dame, but they basically offered him everything he wanted in Portland. If he wants out, he is rolling the dice. A list of 'any contender' is reasonable but pinpointing a specific team is not. I know hes special to the city but literally 99.9% of player can be traded at any minute to any team. Blazers getting the best offer from any contender is doing him a solid. Midds has been an institution here, won us a ring, and signed a reasonable deal. I have no doubt that if we lose in the second round this year we would try to move him. It's part of the 9 figure package you signed up for.

And he’s getting injured much more often as well.

I just don’t want him to go to Miami for basically free however.

Who is somehow a worse player than Thanasis, surprisingly. But should be food for thought for the "we must keep Thanasis at all costs" crowd.

The silver lining is with just him bam and butler, at least two of those guys are missing 20 games. Would be fun seeing them struggle this year and then watching them deal with butler and his contracts as they age.

They’ve given him like 200+ million dollars before the endorsement money to do a job that was mutually agreed to by both parties.

Loyalty is a funny word because I’d say Damian demanding a trade to 1 of 2 destinations might muddy up the definition. After everything he said recently and the Blazers spending a fortune on Grant (yikes), this is doing them a bit dirty, I’m not taking junk assets that does nothing for my business long term.

32 teams in the league, money talks. Gms turn over, new culture can write it off.

Once one party breaches the trust the other party is released of obligations. And anybody would have given Dame that contract; it's not a substantive act of loyalty to give your best player a big contract. it's not like they could have snubbed him and signed an equivalent player instead. But Dame did have options

Again "money talks" means you have to pony up extra cash to drown out the other noise. That is a material disadvantage.

Did Dame get more from Portland than any other team could pay him?

Honest question. I don’t know. I’m guessing, yes.

This is the NBA player formula now. Get the max money from your team. Ensure bird rights will transfer. Demand trade to specified location.

I don’t think Dame is extraordinary or unique in anyway in all this. Either positive or negative. All NBA players are exploiting this. This was likely his intention all along, barring some near miraculous ascension with Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant last year.

It doesn’t really make sense financially for us but I’m still a little salty we’re not on his list lol. Also interesting Philly isn’t either.

Yes, he got the super max that you can only get from the team that drafted you.

Really pathetic if Miami gets Dame for Herro/Robinson/Picks.

In general I don't think teams go out of their way to get the player where they want. It's more other teams don't give up big packages for guys who don't want to come to them. Why have that headache from day one. So it just kind of works itself out that stars end up where they want.

Keeping agents happy is also a factor.

So… he really didn’t have options. Unless he wanted to leave money on the table. Which… well… “money talks”.

Yeah, even without DeAngelo Russell they are going to be 100 mil over the salary cap. Once they add his salary they are going to be almost 100 mil over the luxury tax.

Lakers just said f*** your second apron.

They hardcapped themselves already so unless they pull off some serious magic they will not be going over the second apron. I don’t think they can go over it.

Portland is going to send Dame to Miami because that’s just how it is as mentioned above. I will also say though, that them going the other route won’t hurt them that much, especially by the time they will need guys to want to come there(if scoot and Sharpe develops).
Non-desirable markets have to develop their drafted guys, and then overpay for the last few pieces in order to compete. Desirable markets just have to keep their books clean and wait for the top guys to flock to them. Portland squeezing as many picks out of this is way more valuable than keeping a few agents and nba circles happy. But that’s easier said than done and it’s a lot more context, and human emotion involved so Portland is going to(wrongly) do right for Dame in this situation.
