discussions with my friends who like the lakers whos opinions i respect they tell me prince is a good defender for 1/2/3 but he cant really defend bigger in 4/5s

He is pretty terrible everywhere else outside of playing as an undersized 4 and he isn’t going to provide any help on the glass in that role so you’d need either Giannis or Bobby at the 5 in that lineup. He will be a fine enough regular season rotation player, but I don’t want him seeing much floor time in the playoffs.

I think he will excell as an oversized 2 for us

cant be specific on prince but i can say with certaintly that guys trying to guard 1-4 with giannis and lopez on the back line is going to be a very different look with us vs the lakers

We had a healthy amount of Jae Crowder last year, literally any NBA level player is a huge upgrade. He killed us on the floor, even a neutral player would add a few wins.

And Beasley sabotages team defense, idrc about the open 3's. There are 100+ players in the league who can shoot 40% from 3 on decent volume given the gravity of Dame and Giannis, and without destroying your perimeter defense. Not like Delon and Prince are great, but we got two of those type of guys for cheap. You'll see the difference when you don't put a gross defender next to Dame for 30 mins a night

Two big addition by subtraction moves

Will it? Anthony Davis played a lot of games last year and is better than anybody we've got defensively.

True but I don't think they had any positive defenders outside AD since Vanderbilt went down. Honestly that roster sucked

Bucks had a huge defensive rebounding problem last year. Gotta remedy that

Yeah I think people have forgotten how good Giannis is defensively. AD just can't move like Giannis. Giannis also has a DPOY over AD while being 2 years younger and more durable. We've forgotten playoff Giannis because of injuries :nonono:

AD is asked to do a lot more and is greater in his role. Don't forget what level Giannis can get to but he doesn't do it enough.

If he’s playing the 2 that’s another year of guards blowing by our back court. Prince has been in the league nearly 10 years now. He is who he is.

Yeah, I'm not buying Prince as the starting 2. That's just doubling down on funneling everything to Brook.

Prince has played with Gobert and AD the last two years and was a below average defender. I don’t expect Giannis to change that at all.

OH he can be below average and that'll still be leaps and bounds better than Beas & Crowder. The bar is in hell

At this point we may as well make a go with the combo of Delon and Prince starting at the 2 matchup dependent while we wait for somebody in the glut of young unproven guys to step up rather than waste yet another roster spot on whoever shakes out at the minimum on the SG FA market. I’d like to have another big if we aren’t making any trades. I’d even settle for a back up PG.

AD can't hold a candle to GA.

I still put Prince over P.J. Washington and everyone gushed over him. Prince has similar size strength defensively but is a high quality shooter.

That’s a pretty hot take. Prince is a lot closer to Semi Ojeleye than he is PJ Washington.

Guys, stats and eye test say different. I never slander Giannis and am fully aware of how great he is but AD is a better defender at this point. Just what it is.

I don’t think Giannis has been an incredibly impactful defender the past couple years. He’s asleep at the switch a lot of the time. He is, however, the only guy on the team who will grab a rebound so he’s incredibly important there.

I’d love it if he had a renewed focus on the end and lowered his offensive usage a bit.

He’s still impactful, but he’s definitely choosing his spots more. It’s natural for a guy that plays as much as he does. Lebron did the same thing as he aged. Giannis is about the same age as LeBron in his second stint in Cleveland.
