i wish that too :x

i'll always think it was a bad move to trade mo before we got a chance to see what playing for skiles would do for his defense

So how many pages will this thread be before the trade is actually official? I'll say 22.

I think we should wait and see whether Sessions is active tonight first, although I will say that it sounds pretty definite.

paulpressey25 wrote:I go back to what Reddzone said regarding JA. Skiles and Hammond scouted and interviewed JA long and hard. He was their guy. They passed a ton of more highly regarded players to draft him. This was a #8 lotto pick. I love the fact Hammond is trading JA while he's still got "potential" but the only major red flag here is the fact Hammond/Skiles wanted Alexander so badly just six-months ago.

Hammond is really doubling down here at the craps table. Admitting he made mistake on Alexander, taking a chance he'll blow up somewhere else, and giving up perhaps his best trade asset at the moment in Sessions all for Mike Conley, Jr. Babcock has to be pretty happy right now though. The past braintrust loved Conley.

Press, maybe the mistake he made was on M & M rather than JA, which makes waiting for JA unnecessary (as has been stated) I'm not saying that JA won't blow up somewhere else but that M & M changed the dynamic on Joe significantly.

You two are about as brotherly and sisterly as I am your daddy.

This deal sucks. Conley is garbage. Adam Morrison was picked 3rd and he sucks. Oh but wait, he was selected 3rd and was good in college and for one day was picked ahead of Milsap, Rondo, Brewer, and Roy so I suppose if I was Utah, Boston, or Portland and Charlotte comes calling, I should listen if they want those players since AM was selected higher.

For all you people who say stats don't tell the whole story and to watch games, I have, Conley is nothing special. Augustine looks far more special so far. As does Sessions. Give magic an off season with Abunassar and have him work on shooting and ball handling and give him the QO and match someones offer sheet. I honestly believe RFA's will be very cheap this coming summer.

As for JA, I don't really care about him that much. I didn't like the pick on draft day and he hasn't proven anything different yet so I am fine with him leaving. However is we are using him as a chip, we need to use him to help trade one of Gadz, RJ, or Redd. One of those 3 needs to go before anyone else.

I'll even go 30. If it happens at all.

Interesting this is going on with the Bucks in DC. I even heard JA on DC radio this morning!

I agree that M&M changed the dynamics here in allowing this trade to happen. But it still does not take away from the fact that Hammond/Skiles passed on a PG (Augustin), Combo guard (Bayless), Center (Lopez) and PF (Speights) all of whom would have been major additions to this team right now.

At the time of the Alexander pick, we had on our roster RJ and Desmond Mason. No need to take another SF at #8. Where I think Hammond and Skiles blew it was maybe they envisioned JA being like David Lee and being able to be a 10rpg guy playing some PF and taking the job from CV.

In any event, he's cashing the asset while it still has some value, so kudos there. I feel much better getting back Mike Conley who has had a very dissapointing early time in the NBA than I would feel receiving Joe Alexander, who I just can't project into anything. At least with Conley I can engage in hopeful (wishful?) thinking he'll become Tony Parker.

I find it amusing that the same people praising Hammond for cutting his losses are the same people who were up in arms against the rest of us who criticized Alexander's ability in summer league and in the first half of the season.

carmelbrownqueen wrote:If Hammond makes this trade too me it says.. "I love Luc Richard Mbah a Moute" and he's playing so well for us that I am no longer willing to wait for Joe Alexander to live up to his potential."

I just can't get with that line of thinking for a couple reasons. Joe was going to need time to develop, why pull the plug after a few short months? That's not 'waiting', they didn't give the guy the opportunity because they're so gung-ho on making the playoffs like always. Could Peterson not do his magic with Joe? What makes us think he can with Conley, who has been terrible his first 1+ years in the league?

DB made the point to think of Luc as the first rounder and Joe as the second rounder. Although that may make things easier for some, it's simply living in a fantasy world, not realistic. I could pretend Michael Redd makes 6 million a year but he doesn't. The fact remains that we wasted a pick in the top 10 and we're giving him away in the reported deal (assuming nothing more is added). Huge opportunity cost and so many of us knew it.

From Stein's Power Rankings:

The talks with Memphis about swapping Sessions and Alexander for Conley are, by all accounts, legit. No word yet on which team would be footing the bill for re-doing Alexander's video campaign to get into the dunk contest.

Put me in the camp of I don't like this deal at all. JA is going to be good, and so is sessions. Mike Conley better be an all-star.

And why does Herb have to approve? If he wants to actually approve it, it shouldn't spend more than 30 seconds on his desk. So is Hammond actually running this team, or is it Herb and cronies again?

Any chance Conley can wear Scoonie Penn's preseason jersey or is that retired?

If he wears TJ Ford's old jersey, would the average fan be able to tell the difference?
