To me Donte simply has to do one thing, extend his production into more playing time. If he can keep up last years production (per 36 14/7/3/2) into an every night 30+ minutes a game role he's a downright awesome role player and an absolute monster addition from where we got him. If he could even put together a moderately improved jumpshot on top of that, let's say like 36%, we're talking an insane role player.

Warriors almost traded Klay, these things happen. Bogdan's shooting made him a perfect fit, but we're not going to be hurting with Donte out there.

Donte is a good well rounded player. There are two things he needs to improve to become a legit starting SG. 3pt % and TOs

If he can get up to 38-40% in 3s, we have a steal at SG. I am just skeptical he’s gonna improve to more than 5% in a year.

Gonna be real nice if/when Donte takes even a slight leap, while Serbian Jesus puts up his empty box numbers on a 38-win treadmill team. Between this and the incredibly dumb hand-wringing over that other guy on the Jazz, I'll happily never have to hear the name "Bogdanovic" ever again.

Maybe we would have come to regret that trade.

We shall see.

That isn't true at all. They can be confident in DDV but also view Bogdan as an upgrade (and they weren't trading anything else of value for him in the proposed trade). It's not an either/or.

Donte was also valuable enough to take on the dead weight money of Ersan and to a lesser extent Wilson. Donte clearly has value out there.

He doesn't need to shoot anywhere near that to be a steal. That's literally better than Bogdan shoots. He shoots anywhere near that he's basically Portland Wes Matthews, who got a Bogdan deal after tearing his achilles on a salary cap 40 million less.

Obviously he's a factor. Probably he pretty much is what he is. But *if* his game could step up a notch, that could be a factor in the Bucks being better equipped to go all the way. And he's still young enough that it's too soon to assume he can't perhaps get better, perhaps significantly so. Probable, no; possible, yes.

I'm not as high on Donte as most, but one thing that does miff me the most about him is his shooting. I can't grasp how poorly he has shot it in the NBA.

Hell, if Donte starts hitting the 3P at a 35%-37%, I'd be ecstatic. Prefer Bog obviously, but you can do a lot worse than DDV.

33.6% isn’t horrible for what is basically your first healthy season in the league. If he’s still in the low 30s this upcoming year I’m with you though.

If he makes the same jump from year 2 to year 3 than he did from year 1 to year 2, he's right where he needs to be. Pre-bubble last year he was 34.4% from 3.

I'm guessing he'll settle in mid to high 30s in 3pt shooting. He's got great form but needs to get more comfortable out there. He always seems he's either thinking too much or forcing stuff.

Donte is so close and the main thing that needs improvement is probably shooting. He just needs to be a consistent 35% 3pt shooter and he becomes a top notch role player. He will surpass that. He will never be a superstar but he is going to be a damn good player for a long time.

That's not nearly good enough if wants to close playoff games for the Bucks, which I'd love to see happen. They need legit 3-point threats around Giannis in the playoffs. If he becomes a 38-40% 3-point shooter, he takes this team to another level. Another 33% season, and he may need to ride the pine come closing time.

It's not horrible, but when one of the main reasons for drafting him was his shooting ability, it's a bit concerning. They need him to be at 35-37% to be a viable starter, IMO. If he's going to shoot the three at 33.6% while already being an average sized 2-guard with other limitations, that's bad.

All this said I think we need to be prepared for Bud to platoon SG hard.

Can DDV play PG instead of SG? I think he played some PG early last season.

Why didn't we just re-sign Matthews instead of connaughton when Matthews is much cheaper and also more impactful to winning? Like is there a reason?

I think the Bucks did make an offer to Matthews but he chose the Lakers.
