Yeh agreed, Kinda sad attempt to resurrect Brando and Dean.

I think this was the point.

I thought that Gladiator II trailer was kinda lame tbh. The song choice sucked and doesn’t fit the tone of what I’d expect out of a Gladiator film at all, the trailer gave away too much, and while he’s a fantastic actor it’s difficult for me to not see Denzel there as just Denzel in Ancient Rome lol.

Very different than say the Alien: Romulus trailer for example, which imo matched the eeriness, the tone, claustrophobic feel of the original beautifully. Sound choice, set design, all gave me such strong OG Alien vibes.

You say "just Denzel in Ancient Rome" as if that's not a perfect movie pitch.

On one hand, Im not a huge fan of Gladiator, I liked it, its not top ten cinema for me. But on the other hand, there is no chance Im not watching Gladiator II. That trailer doesn’t look like “great” cinema. But it looks great at what I want that movie to be (gladiators fighting rhinoceroses and having naval battles and crap like that).

Finally gonna try HotD.

I'm still mad at myself for watching the abhorrent final 3 seasons of GoT.

I always thought the original Gladiator was incredibly overrated. It's fine, a perfectly solid film, not anything more than that to me.

I watched Gladiator for the first time about two months ago. I was incredibly underwhelmed. I was definitely not entertained.

That looks...ridiculous. Paul Mescal looks like he's 5'4 for some reason. Denzel is either going to be amazing or appear to be going through the motions for a check.

Unless the reviews are amazing, I'll sit this out.

I saw Gladiator in the theater when it came out and enjoyed it a lot. Have maybe seen it a couple times since then. Not a movie I ever think to revisit or one that needed a sequel, though.

Definitely not the movie I would have given Best Picture to.

I'll end up seeing it anyway, but I would prefer if they had made Nick Cave's bonkers sequel that he pitched. This one very much looks like a rehash.

I can't get over how bad Apple's Presumed Innocent is. It's honestly one of the worst shows I've seen in a long time.

Agree across the board, and remember enjoying Gladiator when it came out but being annoyed at how it steamrolled to Best Picture and You Can Count on Me wasn't even nominated but Chocolat, a movie I hate to a frankly irrational degree, was.

You Can Count on Me, wow that’s a hidden gem, I’m a huge action guy and avoid sappy movies like the plague, but one hung over morning I watched this and it touched me to the point of almost tears, barely remembered the name until you just mentioned it.
Maybe 3 movies have done this out of nowhere..

Hidden Gems that almost are on par with Good Will Hunting and Dead Poets Society,

RIP Shelley Duvall. Didn't make features for very long but what an impact.

I made a face when I clicked through to Altman's wiki page and re-discovered that he died in 2006 (!). Could definitely argue that they were both at their best when working together.
