AD's max deal 5yrs $190M, it's surprising that AD is getting less than Giannis.

IMO, the signs are pointing to him signing a 2-year extension with the 2nd year being a player option.

Thats the most he could have got from the Lakers. He needed to sign the supermax with the Pels if he wanted more.
Why should you go to jail for a crime someone else noticed? You don't need double talk... You need Bob Loblaw.

If he loses that trust with Bud, I can see him signing a short term deal with the Bucks at the end of next year if we bring in someone with chops and a proven playoff performance. If he thinks that someone like Spoelstra can bring out the best in him, I can see him making a change just for that.
Bud system makes him look this great in regular season. Bud system brought him MVP awards. Our defense (crowding paint and let them shoot 3s) open so many fast break and semi-fastbreak opportunities for Giannis. Our offense (everybody stay at 3 point line and let Giannis penetrate) works great for Giannis in regular season too. Lopez also helps Giannis looks better not only because he is big who can shoot from 3 but also because Lopez box out a lot but doesn't go for jump a lot. Giannis will never have this rebounding number with some C who goes for rebounds. Middleton is also perfect all-star teammate to make Giannis numbers look better because he doesn't demand ball all the time.
What I want to say is: If/when Giannis leave the Bucks his numbers will not be nearly as good as they are with Bucks under Bud and with this teammates. This is dream environment for him. He will realize that if he leaves but then it will be too late. Then he will look like tall Westbrook.

A good hearty laugh with my cup of coffee is exactly what I needed this morning.
Thank you.

Perhaps Giannis wants to keep the pressure on the front office so they acquire another superstar next offseason (for him to sign the supermax deal). However, this approach could create a huge ripple effect throughout the entire organization. The FO will be on pins and needles the whole time contemplating either trading him and losing a shot at a championship this year (as well as angering the fan base), or lose him and Jrue for nothing. Holiday will think to himself, what am I chopped liver? Does Giannis not believe I can move the needle for a team with the best record in the east 2 years in a row? Also, I can imagine Middleton seeing the writing on the wall because due to our cap space, the only way we're getting another superstar is by trading him. Not to mention all the furor from the fanbase.

Thanks for the explanation. So how does that work with Giannis if he's traded or signs a 1+1 with another team next year? Not sure how the supermax works.

All the supposed "suitors" for Giannis in free agency keep dropping like flies with signing their own guys to these extensions. Read the tea leaves guys...

Re: Giannis Thread - 2 Time MVP - The Contract discussions
Giannis would be foolish not to sign the supermax now. Unless he thinks that the Bucks would trade him now and that is what he wants.
If he signs a 1plus i year contract, it would be v risky for him as one never knows when a major injury might occur. That would ruin his earnings potential perhaps forever.
So I think that he will sign a Supermax now or he asks for a trade now. This is the equilibrium situation and there is better option for Giannis.

Supermax now and not next year or asking for a trade now. I cannot see any other solutions that are superior from Giannis’ perspective. The risk of injury and loss of earnings potential too high.

When exactly is media day? Not seeing anything about it on Bucks.com or @Bucks twitter.

I think Dallas would need to make moves. They have like 75m committed already. Toronto would need to renounce Lowry or trade him and only draft picks back. Would Giannis think Toronto with Pascal and FVV is much better than what we have? I guess the city is cooler.
The biggest threat now is a 1+1 IMO, though the big names would be out at that points (Mavs-Luka will be up, Lakers-no room, Heat-Butler will be older, hero etc are due; warriors-still wont have room)

1 plus 1 would be risky for him. Injury wise.

It's hard to say with Giannis. In his mind he's likely earned more money than he could ever imagine as a kid. If he signs the 1+1, that would still give him another 3 years of salary in the $100M range. He's also looking at how other superstars have handled similar situations (Lebron with his 1+1 deals and KD getting the max deal after his injuries). At this point in his career he's made it clear that he wants to win multiple championships. Perhaps signing the 1+1 or 2+1 deals gives him the flexibility to do that. Worse comes to worst, a team will always be willing to max him out even after a major injury (God forbid).
