Should I be nervous that Doc is quoted in the Athletic article announcing the extension?

Yep. They won’t fire him. “It’s energy and effort”. They’ll blame the players.

Watch them re-sign Brook and Prince while letting Bobby, KPJ, Sims, and GTJ walk. Then they’ll trade AJG to duck under the luxury tax so they can give Westbrick the MLE or something super dumb.

Oh and I’m expecting Kuz gets an extension if he is eligible.

What the actual ****, man.

I get that this is more about keeping Giannis comfortable than anything else, but what does it matter if we don't have someone at the top to navigate us out of this mess? It's not Horst, seeing as he only has one 1st round pick bullet left to fire off.

I mean, I hope this at least means Doc is gone and that Jon gets to handpick his guy without owner interference... but that's a pretty big hope, IMO.

It's the hope cope that's what this means. It could mean the opposite, that he's to provide cover for the owner &/or Doc.

But the owners put their own interests above Doc. And everyone has a breaking pt. I think Doc would have been canned if we lost to the Jazz at 2-8. Getting beat in 4-5, w/ Giannis & Dame, playing this lineup, & Doc's likely cooked. Beyond that, beats me. But I think they'll still meddle.

Have we entertained the idea that Doc doesn't even wanna be back next year?

Have we entertained he never wanted to be here in the first place, but took the job anyway because he could only get so many free dinners? He said it would be the toughest gig of his career, after taking over when the team was 32-14.

If you're implying he's tanking purposely w/ these lineups because he wants to get fired, I'm open to it. He did say he was trying to get kicked out of regular season games to watch golf.

Maybe Doc told ownership that when he gets named POBO this summer, he wanted Horst to already be locked up.

Oh yes, I've been adamant on the "he never really wanted to be here and just thought he'd get an easy ring when he saw Dame and Giannis" narrative. He's getting paid either way and dude is 64 years old. I don't think he wants to deal with the 82-game grind anymore. Convinced that he'd much rather golf and pop up on Bill Simmons' podcast to talk about the good ol' Celtics days once a week. I think his days as a coach are completely done. Them promoting him to POBO is the only way I see him sticking around the organization any longer, and that I guess is the biggest remaining fear.

Doc never wanted to return to coaching. He even said he didn't when the Bucks first approached him.The Bucks just gave him a huge bag he couldn't refuse.

I wouldn't be shocked if Doc is intentionally trying to get fired so that he can go back to playing golf and still get the bag.

I am not being factious, I seriously would not be shocked if he's actually doing this. Doc is a snake.

He's a bad coach, but it's hard to believe he is actually this bad.

If everything was the same this season but you swapped Doc for a competent coach, the Bucks are the #3 seed and IMO it's not even a debate. The Knicks locked down the #3 seed with 51 wins. With even an average head coach the Bucks would have easily won around 52 games.

We would be playing the Pistons right now with HCA and the Knicks and Pacers would be playing in the #4 vs #5 slot.

I feel like if Horst is getting an extension, Doc is not going anywhere.

I would assume he is the Yes man to our incompetent owners.

I also stand by what I have been saying for awhile. If Doc was going to be fired, he would have fired by now.

No, because last year he had the excuse it was midseason when he arrived. This season he could rationalize the team won almost 50 games and there was upheaval. If we get (gentleman) swept, w/ Giannis & Dame starting in game 2, why would they retain him for this role? They wouldn't. He might be kicked upstairs for a lower involvement job out of sunk-cost fallacy & he's a sweet talker. But the owners are invested in this working w/ Giannis.

Horst extended. Interesting. Assuming it's to try and retool around Giannis in the last 2-3 years of his deal.

He said he didn't want to come in halfway through the season. He'd rather come in over the summer and have a full training camp. And yes they threw money at him to step in immediately.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

If you really believe Doc is a snake, then why take his word at face value about not wanting to coach? You can’t have it both ways. Either he’s being honest, or he’s manipulative—both can’t be true in the same breath.

More likely, Doc does want to coach—he just doesn’t want to do the hard, day-to-day grind that comes with actually building a system and holding players accountable. He wants the platform, the prestige, the paycheck… but not the process.

That’s not someone who’s “trying to get fired,” that’s someone who thinks their résumé should carry them. And honestly, the front office should have seen that coming.
