He won the MVP in 2007. Finished 3rd in the voting two other years. Two Finals appearances, one title.

And he did it on teams that most in the NBA wouldn't consider juggernauts. Including denying LeBron, Wade and Bosh in 2011.

And the guy was an iron-man. Rarely injured. Made the All-NBA team for 12 straight years.

He's in the Top Ten since year 2000.

I have nothing but love for Dirk. And everything you said is true. My comment was more in the context of there are always 2-3 guys who the title will surely go to (Bird, Magic, Isaiah… then MJ was a list of one… then Shaq, Duncan… then Lebron, Kobe, still Duncan.

Dirk was never a guy that people said “the title goes through Dallas” and that might make his championship that much more impressive, he played so well they beat a super team.

After the way he played yesterday, mocking would be unseemly.

Play random wasn’t the best slogan, but the idea of being unpredictable is a good one. Bud got way too much hate for that.

Embiid not understanding why he’s less liked than his superstar peers is amusing.

From a play perspective, he’s the biggest foul grifter in the game today while also being one of its most physically imposing.

From a personality perspective, he often makes plenty of excuses for himself, and openly complains about not getting respect/awards. His peers in Giannis and Jokic mostly don’t give a **** what others say, and just keep on keeping on.

Embiid has a thin skin, and is a poor leader. Schadenfreude already has gravity, but for Embiid it’s like a black hole.

Its a league staple, also his new coachs' catch phrase.

Especially since the vast majority of the league basically plays the same high p&r O scheme these days.

TyTy was exciting for a split second but we have a much more dynamic and athletic 19yr old we’re replacing him with so yeah, no loss at all.

Yeah, it's not that the strategy was to play random due to not being coached well, they were too structured. There was years and years of tape of deep playoff runs where the team played a pretty structured and efficient offense. This was just him telling players to take advantage of opportunities.

Still funny that Bud got so much **** for that sound-byte while simultaneously his main criticism was that he was "too rigid" and not unpredictable enough.

nobody ever really said the title goes thru milwuakee with giannis either. i mean thats a media and market thing not a player thing.

dirk was right there with duncan. better winshare and vorps anyway. less supporting cast obviously and maybe duncan gets it regardless because of the titles but dirks metric comps are garnett, malone, barkley, duncan etc and he stacks up handily.

hes right there. scrub teams with the best records in the league. longevity. titles. mvp.....hes got the metrics.....and if youre going to talk about the modern game and him clearly being the GOAT shooter at the position.... geez how many titles would we have had with him or giannis? its a fair question as the game has changed.

as badass as he was then how would he be now ffs

i really think if you arent discussing him literally in the discussion for greatest PF of all time then your falling prey to the same media crap that keeps him out of your "top 3 in the league" thing. of course the championship went thru dallas. of course it did. his teams won 55-67 games 7 freaking times. they were right there for over a decade and he was all nba every one of those years like 12 in a row.

I get your argument, and it pokes holes in mine (that there tend to be 2-3 guys one of which will win the title). I was really only trying to illustrate that Shaq was thought of a more dominant player than Embiid, at the heights of their respective primes.

I think Duncan was objectively better than Dirk.

I think Dirk is a top 18 all time player, even higher if criteria includes the impact you had in changing the game.

We got so lucky that John Hammond didn't get to Grunfeld the #15 for Josh Smith.

Could've been the team that traded Nowitzki & Antetokounmpo.

A bit surprised, I think Nwora was good enough to warm the bench somewhere in the league.
