Beasley to the Rockets? He won’t play but he might win a ring. Pretty early in his career to be ringchasing but after the FBI investigation a great place to lay low

The Clippers circumventing the salary cap is the least surprising news article of the day, the fact that it was so blatant however is surprising.

I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has happened ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I feel like the Bucks may be doing this too. The league has to throw the gauntlet down on the Clips now. What a cursed organization

I'm sure this isn't even close to the first time it's happened in sports. Like, even Patriots homers in the media say they were doing with this with Tom Brady.

Crazy to see a team actually get caught though. Very curious how/if the NBA responds.

So this is all really preceded by the Joe Smith scandal, yeah? That was three first round picks for a deal that never even ended up happening.

I'm not convinced Silver cares much, though. Guess we're about to find out.

Definitely. Edens could easily include a player in one of his business deals. This isn't much of a story TBH.

LA gets caught? Likely doesn't care
MKE gets caught? Major scandal and will lose multiple future picks plus massive fine. "Giannis on the way out?"

It really should be though. If you can't afford a player within the set of rules then you can't afford them. Otherwise just get rid of the salary cap entirely.

I think this one has legs. This was a sham payment.

Yeah, it's like the difference between guys having complex contracts leaked immediately after FA.opens and the Bucks having a S&T leaked days before. You've got to give the league deniability. Things that look bad *are* bad.

League is going to come down on the Clips and Ballmer. I predict Ballmer will be suspended as governor and fined, Clips will lose picks, and Kawhi will be a FA. But it won't happen this season -- they'll take all year to investigate.

Sure Ballmer could be "suspended" but he'll still run the show, he just won't be at games acting like a buffoon. A fine that won't matter to him. And a pick or two.

I need to brush up on the details, but IIRC the Joe Smith scandal broke because of burned bridges between agents. I wondered what happened here - like what was the tip of the iceberg that led to them deep diving into this to find it all out?

Then I watched the clip and saw how dumbfoundingly un-obscure this was.

IF (big if) they are fined picks, that really does matter though. Minny lost three picks during KG's prime which made it pretty famously difficult to actually build around him, and we all know how things ended with him in Minny (they didn't). Things look a lot different for LAC, but they have a really old roster and without any young stars in the wings. Taking away their picks makes both drafting the next star or trading for him effectively impossible.

NBA needs some public trust. Shady trades. Shady officiating. Can’t allow a big market to blatantly flaunt the cap. Also, this has tax/revenue sharing implications for all teams. 28 million in real dollars could be like 100 million in tax that would be split amongst non-cap teams or something, correct? Feel free to educate me there, because I don’t follow CBA anymore. Also, the aprons are punitive in terms of other player transactions, etc… I imagine, at least some teams, will throw a **** fit.

The NBA voided our trade for Bojan and took picks (a second or two?) because we were a couple days early contacting him.

They need to void Leonard’s contract and take 2-3 firsts for this.

Also, I wouldn’t be shocked if a number of our guys had similar deals in place, lol.

Kawhi also demanded out from a storied franchise in San Antonio and then straight walked on Toronto after winning the first chip in the team's history.

Terrible for small markets and the league all around.

Someone on twitter posted fines for salary cap circumvention and they looked crazy low. Like $4.5mm and $5.5mm per offense and loss of "one" draft pick.

Still so many details still to come out. Pablo's podcast was too long and detailed to absorb in a fast setting.

Where Ballmer went wrong was not having Kawhi do anything and having his sponsorship payment apparently be so much larger than the other celebs.

What really is interesting is Clips social media put out this post once a year. And it has the wrong link to Aspiration. They couldn't even get that right.
