If you make the dunk, it should negate the charge call

I still don't know Whitmore slid that far. He's gonna make a lot of GM's look stupid.

Re: Around the League
1) I don't think it should ever be a charge if the guy is leaning backward already at the time of contact.
2) Such a dangerous play and the defender needs to be accountable if it goes bad because of him. Just like with a hard close out, except much more dangerous.

Seriously why would you say this on record publicly?![]()
This is where your GM giving nothing but boring, bland GM speak responses is actually nice lol.
That's Bucks Legend Calvin Booth that you are referring to. He was a key part of Larry Harris being able to dump the Keith Van Horn contract, thus freeing up salary room to allow the Bucks to sign marquee free agent Bobby Simmons back in 2005. Of course Booth got his big contract from Isiah Thomas, for his 30 minutes of good play in a meaningless playoff series for the Knicks. He was a classic journeyman, given a big MLE contract by a dumb GM.
The more interesting takeaway is the fact that the interview was done by KOC, who on his pod raved about how smart Booth was. But that to me is a warning sign. Booth goes on at great lengths in that interview to talk about how smart Denver (and he) are. Usually when that happens, you're headed for a fall.

He really went out on some limbs.
It's one thing to make the decision internally that you feel Watson can replace Brown, but to talk publicly with such certainty about it, well, not that it would have been great for him to be wrong before, but he certainly got clear of the explosion when Brown got >20m/yr. He just turned around and walked back into it. This absolutely smacks of Lacob's "light years ahead" interview, but without a viral tagline.
Our Greek friends have a word for this kind of excessive pride. Tends to work out for the hero iirc

Re: Around the League
Was gonna defend his right to be cocky after constructing a championship team, but then I saw that he's only been GM a grand total of 400-days and he inherited that entire core (Jokic, Murray, Gordon, MPJ). C'mon Calvin. Acquiring KCP and Brown were really good on-the-margins moves, but you don't have the kind of clout/resume to be boasting (and publicly shading players) like this yet.

Charges are stupid and dangerous. I don’t have any ideas, but I’m sure the people who get paid for it can come up with a way to still have offensive fouls without people undercutting players 10-ft in the air. Ban the charge.

The whole scenario points out how tough it is to be considered a "great GM". The team was arguably built by Tim Connelly (and others), but then Connelly bails to join the T-Wolves, and proceeds to make one of the worst trades in NBA history (Gobert).

Maybe there are cap reasons for this, but I don't know why Houston wouldn't just release him themselves instead of giving up the 2 2nd's for Oladipo who will almost certainly not put on a Rockets uniform next season and a mid-tier developmental prospect in Robinson-Earl.

This is a bigtime salary dump, so Houston had to pay. He's owed $60+ million. That costs a lot of assets.
And the fact OKC is waiving him speaks volumes.

I'm honestly surprised all it took was two 2nd-rounders. How does this work for OKC's cap though? Are they really gonna carry a $16 mil dead cap hit for this year and next? To my knowledge only the last year of his deal was non-guaranteed.

Only this year is fully guaranteed. 1 million next year and then nothing.

Its one million next year and the final years are unguaranteed. Seems like a decently steep price to pay for something you could've done yourself.

Wasn't it questions about his character? If so; those teams who passed might still end up looking smart.Ron Swanson wrote:I still don't know Whitmore slid that far. He's gonna make a lot of GM's look stupid.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

No it was a medical issue, knee if I recall correctly, that led to the drop.
