OT - Gasol to Lakers

Not a terrible deal for either team. There weren't a lot of large expiring contracts out there and the teams that had them didn't really need Gasol. This would make Memphis the premier team during free agency next summer I believe.

I don't see any official source yet, though.

Every team that's made a big trade over the last few years has done so with a big expiring contract.

Makes trading Magloire's expiring for peanuts look even worse doesn't it?

If this deal is for real, (still no confirmation @ but maybe cause of the game sunday) it makes sense for both teams. Where were the grizzlies going with Gasol and also the Grizzlies still have a guy named Gay and a lottery pick coming.

I don't think the Grizzlies have enough pg prospects. Crittenton, Navarro, Lowry, & Conley. Something gives there.

Now on ESPNEWS. They have it as "Lakers Grizzlies trade P. Gasol for K. Brown"

Ouch, that's gotta hurt any Memphis fan that is just finding out. :lol:

After giving it some thought I can see why Memphis made this deal. Without Gasol they'll give Minnesota a run for worst record in the league. They'll probably rebuild faster this way than hanging on to Paul, or trading him for another aging fringe all-star.

I just read a post on the grizz board speculating about an NBA conspiracy to bring back the Celtics/Lakers rivalry. In the post-gonaghy environment we live in, I don't think it's entirely out of hte question...

Big trade for the Lakers obviously and they are improved but its not enough in my opinion to put them in the NBA finals .

They still dont beat the Spurs in a 7 game series.

They still dont beat the Suns in a 7 game series.

They still dont beat the Mavs in a 7 game series.

God I wish the Bucks were in the West because then they would realize what Memphis realized: the season is over lets rebuild. The Bucks should realize that Redd=Gasol. Two overpaid players who were not leading their teams anywhere when they're the focal point.

I agree on the spurs and suns, but i'm not nearly as sure aobut hte mavs. They should improve a lot in the next few years though as gasol adapts to being the 2nd or 3rd option for hte first time in his career and Bynum continues to improve.

I agree. I have never viewed him as a true point guard in any sense of the word..he can handle the ball but will really need some time to develop if that is where they are going to place him.
