Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
The one thing I fear about the next Jabari contract besides the injuries is next summer if he ends up making it to RFA. I don't want some type of insane contract thrown at him and its up to us to match. Will most likely come back to haunt us and put us further away in competition, while Giannis walks.
Either trade now or get an extension signed before the 15th

Is a contract like that possible under the CBA?
Evidently yes and no based on what they are saying about Embiid's deal. Under Embiid's deal they can cut him at the end of the season if he plays less than 1,650 minutes AND misses 25 or more games due to specified foot or back injuries. If they utilize that provision and cut him, he gets a certain buyout number.
What they don't evidently allow is the Sixers to pay Embiid less money in a given year if he misses part of said year but still keep him under contract. Sixers have to cut him to get any financial relief.
I wouldn't say that the fact that it's not in the Embiid contract means it's not possible. Henson has games played incentives in his contract.

Here's an article for some of the incentives in player contracts. There isn't much you can't do if both sides are willing.

Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
My extension would look like 4 yr 60 mil would be a pipe dream but if it leads to a 4 yr 100 mil. I would want a lot of injury clauses in there and able to waive like Embiids contract.

Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
Not a fan of Jabari's game but I'd offer him 4/$60 (which is a big jump from where I was at) if:
-after year one, the Bucks could terminate the contract if he injured either ACL again and only pay $5mm per year on the remaining years. i.e. Total payout would be $15mm in year one, $5mm in the remaining three years for a total of $30mm.
Give him a player option after year three. That way if he's stomping all over the league he can be a UFA at age 26.

No way Jabari does that now, but I would do that also.

Sounds solid to me. Just wondering what the Bucks FO is thinking? They kept it pretty quiet. Not sure they threw out some offers or revamped some from Embiids deal. Could see him heading to RFA and that is frightening. Would rather throw him in a package for a trade and build solely around Giannis.

Parker is going to get a max offer next summer. Just give it to him now and add the injury protection. If he doesn't take it then reevaluate next summer.

If that's true, then trade him.

Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
I am not understanding this consternation over RFA. Was it all the huge offer sheets that RFAs signed with other teams this summer? Is it that people think giving the league 20-25 games of evaluation is just too much?
If our worst case scenario is not paying a poor man's Carmelo Anthony with time bomb knees the max, I think we'll be okay.

If you guys don't think a young, efficient 20+ ppg scorer is gonna get a max offer, I don't really know what to tell ya.

There is no way his agent could accept injury protection from the knees of a client who already has 2 ACL tears when he could simply wait for better contract deals in the Summer.

1. Test trade market (if there is one). If you find a piece you value trade him. If not, hold and let him play out the year.
2. Offer what you think is a fair deal with fair protections in RFA. If he doesn't like it, let him explore other options.
3. If someone offers him an insane deal, let him walk. If not, see #2.
4. He's not signing a QO under any circumstance, so eventually arrive a reasonable deal for both sides.

Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
I didn't say he wouldn't, just that I don't wanna be the one to give it. If you look around the league though there is not much space left, the only real threat to give him a max would probably be Chicago. But how urgent are they going to be to have two torn ACL guys as their cornerstones going forward making a combined 55-60 mil? If the Bulls want him that bad trade him to them now and take what you can get, maybe get a first. Or get them to take Henson's deal, get Lopez back, etc.
If he won't take less than max then I don't see why you'd do it now. What's the harm in making him play out the year, he could re-injure 3 weeks from now and you would have saved 150 mil.

Or.... in his second game back, he blows his knee on a simple cut again and his career ends. Or... he clearly loses a step or two and becomes Corliss Williamson.

Depending on the odds, I would be willing to bet a substantial amount of money that no team offers Jabari a full max deal in RFA, 25 rusty games after rehab for a second ACL in the same knee.

Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
I've been back and forth on this so many times.
I still come back to one point over and over again. If you give Parker huge money and it fails miserably, you've wasted 5 years of Giannis, assuming he would even stick around. I just don't think I could take that risk. Panic over where you would find another huge piece of the puzzle should not factor in to this decision. They are two separate issues.
If you sign or trade for a big name and it doesn't work out, you can always trade him, recoup and move on. If Jabari blows a knee, you get ZERO and are dead in the water.

While being terrible on D and almost no teams have max cap space available and there will be other players with healthy knees much more deserving of the available space. If it wasn't for the Bulls I'd be very confident in him not getting a max deal.

Exactly.. I'd just like to cut our losses and move on without this huge variable lingering. IF he won't stay for something reasonable then make a trade and start focusing on how to get a star PG in the next two offseasons.

Given the Blazers are probably about to give Nurkic a big deal, and with Swanigan looking like he does, could something be built around Jabari and Zach Collins?
