Re: 2022 NBA Draft
I really want to find a way to get TyTy. Good playmaker, good PnR operator, good C&S shooter, has some pull up game, competes on defense. His stock seems all over the place, but I have him Top-10 in this class and he's being mocked anywhere from 11-19. Figure out how to get him, slide Jrue to the 2.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
Started doing more of a deep dive and man oh man am I not feeling this draft class.
Might be worth a gamble if someone offers their ‘23 pick for our ‘22. Just very very barren in the upside department.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
Leonard Miller is another prospect with "Potential" a team in the late first might want to gamble on. 6'11 point forward making the jump from prep school. But as with any of these high risk high reward guys, the potential for failure is big. Was previously a guard at 6-4 and had a growth spurt to 6'11 with a 7'2 wingspan lol.

Good pull. Seems like a Hammond-type.

I think I want to draft a guard. Didn't watch much college basketball this year but Tyty Washington and Kennedy Chandler caught my eye.
I admittedly have not watched a ton of draft guys yet this year, but based on reading about some of them, the guys I've circled in pencil around our spot are:
- Marjon Beauchamp
- EJ Liddell
- Walker Kessler
- David Roddy
Beauchamp in particular is interesting to me. Shot like crap in the G-League this year (8/33 on mostly open 3 pointers, but shot 41/103 from 3 in JuCo. Showed some decent playmaking chops in JuCo before being second fiddle to the G-League guards as well. And even against the G-League competition, he was an efficient overall scorer because he just lived at the rim (and that was the case in JuCo as well; he shot 64.4% from 2 point range across the past two years, including 68% in the G-League). Decent free throw shooter too at 75% the last two years. He just seems like an all-around very good prospect that's slipped because of how poorly he shot the ball this season.
I also love that he was known throughout high school for being a lazy defender and he's now a high-effort and effective defensive player with the G-League team. That, to me, shows a willingness to take constructive criticism and improve on it that you're always looking for with these guys.
Now that it's offseason time, circling back to my favorite prospect for us (and just one of the most underrated prospects IMO) at the moment.
Kinda looks like a smaller Tobes.

I like TyTy, particularly his passing and pull-up game, but I think I like Chandler and his elite burst (and similar pull-up game) a little better. I am really itching to get somebody who can run circles around switching bigs for pick and rolls with Giannis. Maybe TyTy can do that but the separation Chandler gets is a really good indicator imo. The only thing I don't like about him is how contact shy he can get in the paint. Ultimately I'd be very happy with either.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
I think for all the talk about how the league is going away from massive plodding bigs, it's going equally away from tiny PG's. Which is why I really don't see the appeal with Chandler at all. Lightning quick speed and love his defensive instincts, but not convinced the jumper translates nor does he have enough size to hold up against bigger athletes. I'm not completely against the idea of a short lead guard, but if I'm drafting a guy under 6'2, then he better be built like Eric Bledsoe or Chris Paul, not Brandon Jennings.

Agreed. I think it’s possible for some of these shorter guards to end up being worth it, but I’d just rather not bet on guys being an outlier if I can help it.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
E.J. Liddell, Patrick Baldwin, Blake Wesley, Nikola Jovic, Walker Kessler, TyTy Washington, Chandler Kennedy and Leonard Miller are on my short list of players I wouldn't mind at #24. I hope we keep this pick so we can start trying to develop some younger pieces.

Reminder that every player that makes it in the NBA is an outlier.

I think it goes without saying that’s not what I’m talking about.

Darius Garland, Kyle Lowry, Jalen Brunson, Trae Young, Fred VanVleet, Chris Paul, Tyus Jones, Patty Mills all off the table?

So you're saying my boy Kihei Clark isn't going in the first round next year?

All those guys were much better college shooters than Chandler though. And the only guys on that list with a similar physical profile are players that you basically have to hide on defense (Trae, Jones, Patty), so it kinda furthers my point. Guys like Brunson, Lowry, and CP3 are built like running backs.

I'm still firmly on the Patrick Baldwin Jr train. The upside is just tremendous.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
The Beauchamp kid looks solid. I like the idea that he was playing against "grown men" in the G-League as opposed to 75% CYO/Rec league dudes in the NCAA (sarcastic of course, just not a fan of college sports).
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS

Just be aware of the context that he's college junior age, he turns 22 just before the start of next season. He is a smooth athlete, though. I definitely don't think there's a guy in our range with a better physical profile for a NBA wing.
