Re: Woj - Bucks choose Griffin
Crazy perhaps but I'll judge how he does based on the playoffs, not now or after our first (and every) regular season loss.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I’m sure he’ll sign a very team-friendly extension to do the organization a solid, right?

Low expectations on this one.

Re: Woj - Bucks choose Griffin
The Bucks landed on Griffin as their choice Saturday morning and began negotiations on a multiyear contract that is expected to result in a formalized deal soon, sources said.
Bucks general manager Jon Horst and team ownership became sold on Griffin's leadership presence, character and ability to oversee high-level defensive teams, sources said.

Re: Woj - Bucks choose Griffin
My bad, MD. Didn't see that.
Looking through the staffs he has been a part of I do not see any strong choices for a lead assistant. Imperative to bring in an offensive architect. Still think Borrego makes sense as a guy wanting to get back into the HC ranks.

I'm at Momocon right now and don't have time for this. Gotta go find another booth of overly sexy anime art of video game characters.

Re: Woj - Bucks choose Griffin
I gotta say I'm thrilled with the signing
...didn't look into him much even when he was named as a finalist
but now that I have I gotta say I agree with choosing him over Nurse or anyone else.
-Objectively the most similar to PJ Tucker of any of the candidates
-Has coached under some of the best coaches in the league
-his ex-players seem to love him
-Apparently is somewhat responsible for Jimmy Butler being as tough as he is
-Sounds like he was responsible for Toronto's defense (and the main reason ppl were skeptical about Nurse was his offense)
-Former role player who had to work his ass off to stay in the league for 11 years
-After the NBA he was still motivated enough to go to grad school to get his masters and a PhD in Organizational Leadership (hopefully they teach you when to call timeouts in those classes)
-Has successful kids (including an NBA player I'd love to add to the team)
-Only 48 years old
-Giannis' preferred candidate
now just hire some offensive genius as lead assistant even if he doesn't have any leadership skills or nba experience
gimme sets with off-ball motion and more scripted plays!

Re: Woj - Bucks choose Griffin
It has been re-iterated by players that a coach with the ability to communicate with players directly is wanted. I am excited to see what Griffin does with the players on the roster. Given that he has a history of development, I am excited to see what he does with Marjon. Definitely not going to be pre-upset about the coaching hire.
Hopefully we can get an assistant coach with great offensive acumen.

I don't understand the owners are cheap sub tones. We just ate $16m on a coach they could've kept. It's a weird decision but I doubt they went with him to save a couple million

Yes, said it before but we’ve seen too many first time NBA HCs be awesome immediately in year 1 to give Griffin no shot at all and totally condemn this hiring. Kerr, Nurse, Udoka, Stevens, etc.
There’s a lot here to be optimistic/excited about. Plenty to question as well but let’s at least wait for the answers to play out. If he’s doing really stupid **** then we’ll surely rip on him then lol.

Agreed. We ate $16 million to boot Bud. We're paying millions in lux tax. Lasry got out because supposedly he wanted to scale back spending and replaced him with much deeper pockets. This was certainly not a monetary decision.

Re: Woj - Bucks choose Griffin
Jon Horst was apparently DOBO when Griffin was on Skiles' staff? My memory is shot.
In the same way that I was trying to sell myself on Monty, I am trying to sell myself on Griffin in that maybe he has the clout and salesmanship to sell Giannis as a screener more within the halfcourt offense.

Re: Woj - Bucks choose Griffin
If the Bucks were going to let Giannis pick the coach, I guess we should be at least thankful Jason Kidd wasn't available.
But if you told me we were going to hire Adrian Griffin, I would have been 110% cool with just keeping Bud.

Just saw mark Jones tweet that Jimmy lobbied to for Griffin to get the Chicago job when Thibs was fired. That's probably one of the best little tid bits I've liked about him.

Giannis picking the coach does not make me very excited, but I do like a lot of what i've seen about him(outside of obvious).

Maybe if his name was Denise instead of Dennis.

If I was in charge of hiring the coach, I would ask Giannis who is first choice would be, so I would know which name to scratch off the list first.
