Does that account for Hibbert being the softest player to ever play NBA basketball?

Seems like a logical reason to pass on hibbert.

That's kind of twisting stats.

Per 36 minutes Hibbert scored 15 points and on a ts% of 50.1. Monroe was 18 on 54.9%. That's a substantial difference in volume in conjunction with efficiency.

Monroe also averaged 2.4 assists per 36 to 1.6 for Hibbert.

In addition, Monroe had better efficiency and passing #'s relative to himself when he wasn't playing next to the rangeless Drummond, and that was in his first two seasons.

Hibbert's been playing with West.

Monroe is a far better offensive player. There's no denying it.

He's also a better rebounder.

He's also younger, so has more potential left.

All Hibbert has going for him in the comparison is defense. That's significant, but then factor in the Kidd effect on Henson's and Zaza's rim protection #'s, and Monroe is a way better fit.

Nah that just seems like half-assing it. Pekovic isn't really better than Monroe in any appreciable way, he's older, he's injury-prone, and he's a black hole which is the main deal-killer for me.

I believe that after not even getting in the room with Gasol/Aldridge/Jordan (not my taste), we should just sign a Koufos/KOQ/Ajinca/Wright type who can at least be a quality 3rd big with starter upside, for a cheap and reasonable contract. Then spend the rest on a shooter.

But we seem committed to making a splash, and Monroe is probably the most talented guy reasonably available to us. And he's only 24. I wish he could shoot and his post game is a little overrated but I see how he could grow into a really good fit.

He was also playing out of position in Detroit. We are the better choice for him than NY - by far I think. Could he be using the Knicks to leverage us? 8-)

If you're referring to his TS% he doesn't draw fouls or take many of his shots at the rim. His RAPM numbers are consistently good though even on offense IIRC. Happy Hibbert was awesome, current Hibbert is still a good player.

I haven't watched him enough. What are his issues? Just slow and cant defend a pick and roll?

We all need swag, but on an alpha scale Hibbert is easily negative Wiggins.

Still a much better defender than Monroe.

You use Hibbert situationally like the Warriors did with Bogut. Would work fine here. I'm still not sure where in this defense Monroe fits as far as guarding the post and rotating out to trap the guy with the ball.

We could likely absorb Hibbert's contract right now assuming the cap is that $1 to $2 million higher as projected.

Monroe's a career double double guy with a FG% of 50. He might give up a dunk or two, but he wont get pushed around all night.

I want a center who pushes other people around for a change. Not that Zaza was bad in that regard.
