Giannis must NOT play at the pre-olympic tournament(nor the olympics of course if greece makes it).
I said the same thing last summer.....some of us here in greece can see a lot further than a medal at the olympics.
If the kid stay in the US for the entire summer, he will work both on shooting and his body(add some muscles).
Next season he will be a different player!
I don't know what to say to convince ppl of the obvious.
Hell, maybe we must start a FB page in which we will convince giannis and the NT head coach to leave him out for one summer.
Greece will be rewarded for this in a couple of years.

I agree too as much as I believe that we have no chance without him and the retirement of the greek veterans and Spanoulis. An Olympic tournament though is a huge deal for any individual and I doubt Giannis will stay out especially when the coach said that he will build the team around him too.

About his body though I remember him saying in the summer that he was uncomfortable when he put a lot of muscle and that he asked to lose a bit. If he thinks bad about it I am fine with the way he is like now really. We already saw him match in strength with more powerful PFs this year anyway like the post up against Chandler and others. I also believe that if he puts more weight and keeps playing like that(transition dunks/blocks, eurosteps, spins etc) the risk of an injury will be much higher and I really don't want another Parker moment..

More Kobe for Giannis.

Kobe Bryant had strong praise for Giannis Antetokounmpo after watching the "Greek Freak" notch his first career triple-double: 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. "I talked to him for quite a bit [after the game]," Bryant said Monday. "I was in there with [Bucks coach] Jason [Kidd] and we were just kind of talking a little bit. Jason was saying the biggest thing for him is to decide what he wants to be. Does he want to be a great player or not? I said, Listen that's a choice you're going to have to make. If you want to be that great player, then you're going to have to make certain sacrifices and you've got to go after it.' But he has the potential to do it. He has the physical tools. The intelligence. Now it's just a matter of him believing in himself and going after it. But he has the talent to be a great player."

I would prefer Giannis' working full time on skill development this summer, but I would never ask somebody to give up the Olympics.

Are Kidd and Kobe friends? It seems like they are. I wonder if Kidd called Kobe and asked him for a little motivational help for his player. Kidd has to be thinking the same thing right? Giannis please skip the national stuff for a year or two, sacrifice, get that jump shot, become elite.

I'm not sure that Kobe has friends, but it certainly appears that they have a lot of mutual respect for one another.

(obviously exaggerating regarding no friends, but everything you hear about Kobe is that he has very few)

Thing is, who has Kobe done this for with a player this year? Is he picking a player in every city to generate some positive repore with cities as he leaves? Or has he really only singled out Giannis? I haven't heard of him doing something like this thus far this year but I haven't been paying much attention to it either. Kobe did say he and Kidd were friendly with each other at world and olympics stuff.

They played a lot against each other so I'd imagine there's a lot of mutual respect there (2002 Finals, 2011 WC semi-finals). One thing that was brought up when Kidd was hired that I think has been lost in the conversation, are his personal relationships and reputation amongst players.

Let's not doubt for a second that the combination of Kidd and Giannis having nice exchanges with an all-time great like Kobe can affect a marquee free agent's decision when deciding who he wants to surround himself with. Player and coach relationships are an incredibly underrated aspect of acquiring talent outside of the draft. If Giannis and Jabari continue their trajectory and become stars with Kidd developing a reputation as a HoF player turned coach that people want to play for, that does a lot for your recruitment in the near future.

Some photos and a quick translation from NBA Greece interview

http://nba.sport24.gr/article/3921987/o-giannis-kai-ta-1001-sout (but it is probably all greek to you :D )

The Hug (I don't remember where I got the image I think from someone's comments on Buck's FB):
Image

The family :
Image
Kostas is the one on far left, Alexis is the youngest ( I think 15-16 and growing rapidly) and mom/dad

Here is the interview (I translated it very quickly and a bit rough, so forgive me in advance,):

Gianni that was the most important night of your career. Yourfirst triple double, meeting Kobe Bryant. Beautiful moments. I saw that you went straight to Kobe after the match. What did he say to you ?

What did he tell me ? That I have to keep working. Keep working because I can do amazing things on the NBA and it is up to me and whether I will keep working or not. I just wnated to go and speak to him. A I said this is the second time we play agaisnt each other. I haven't gotten used to him, like Kevin Durant or LeBron (James) and Paul George, who I also saw on the All Star games. I haven't really "lived" him. He wa shidden. Liek a snake. Like a Black Mamba, which is his nickname. It was a great experiencem we won and i got to talk to Kobe.

You went rushing out of the locker rooms. You took your mother , father and brothers to the Laker's Locker Room, coach Kidd was also there, and wanted to talk to Kobe. What happened there ?

My mother was driving me crazy. she wanted a photo. She already told me a week ago: «If I don't get a photo with Kobe, I will kick your a**». I told her not to worry». She sent me 15 SMS. After the end of the match I found her SMS from half time and after then end of the match ! I told myself , she has to take the picture ! I took them to the locker room we found Kobe and took the picture. He (Kobe) is a great guy.

What did your mother tell Kobe?

She said thank you. She was wearing his Jersey, it is the first time she wasn't wearing mine !

What did Kobe advice you to do in order to become better. What did he tell you ?

I have to keep doing what I am already doing and play hard. There are players thatake a night off. They are not playing hard. He practiced every night. That is the difference players like Kobe , Jordan, LeBron, Magic or Shaq have. He told me never to take a day off. That is your job anf you have to do it.

Did he tell you , what he usually says, that Summer is the most important period for practising ?

Yes he did. And I already know it . I know how hard I work . It is different though to hear it from Kobe. I didn't know though how much other players practise. But Iam sure I work hard. He told me he shoots 1000 times a day.

How much do you shoot ?

I do around 500. Now I know I have to do 1.001 to surpass him. I listened to his advice. I heard what he did during the summer and I know what to do. When I retire I have to have the same motto.Like Kobe's, «I gave everything for Basket». That is what I have to do too. Give everything

What does today's triple double mean to you. Tonight's performance and the way the team played ?

We played well.Distributed the ball. Run. Laker'S where also tired due to the Chicago game. We played well in transition, run, good defence and we won.

What happend at the dunk (with Midds passing the board using the board) ?

I didn't expect it. I saw it at the last moment and thought «you have to catch it and make it». It was a nice highlight.

What will you "keep" after tonight. What will you still be discussing after a month ?

Kobe's advice and the smile of my family.

Enjoy guys !

Cheers,

Alex

This is why I think it's not impossible CP3 becomes a Buck one day (before he's 40...).

Can someone find his averages from the last 18 games pls?
The NBA stats goes only as far as 15 games and no more...

I think it has to be something close to

19.5 ppg, 9 reb, 3 ast, 1.5 blk, 1.5 steal 57-58 TS%

which is totally awesome.

Somone posted it the other day it wasn't quite that high and actually closer to the season average which is coming back up after his slump.

Man, i really really dislike people outside Bucks talking about him an d calling him "role player at best" or in generally talking about him like they know him.
Why people that haven't watched Giannis besides their game against Bucks even remotely comment for ?

I hope one day Giannis makes Milwakuee a big market and so finally people notice Bucks more.

We will never be a true "big market" but neither is a place like Oklahoma City and they get plenty of coverage. Same with the Warriors, they were the biggest joke in the league for a long period of time. You have to develop a good team and maintain a high level for an extended period of time. People will be forced to take notice.

I wasn't far off as we see thx to Shaffty. I'm not used to basketball reference yet... :(

A bit less than 19 points, really close to 9 rebs, more assists and just a bit less steals. I guess the TS% is close to my number too.
If Giannis had these avgs the whole season I think he would have been favorite for MIP.
If he continue like that and ends up with a 17.5 ppg, 8.5 reb, 3 ast it will be one more awesome year for him imo.

I think he can easily average 4 assists per game as the PG too, will be interesting to see if he can continue to play at this level for the rest of the season.

180 games to go to catch Oscar in triple doubles.
