Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
Just trade him now. Jabari Parker is not a winning player. Let some other team pay inflated rates for a PPGZ empty stat scorer that is in danger of a career ending knee injury every single game.

I think getting Jordan on the line and offering Jabari and Henson (UNC AND Duke) for Zeller and filler is our best bet.

4. He's not signing a QO under any circumstance, so eventually arrive a reasonable deal for both sides.
My God, can we just quit with the damn trade talk with Jabari? We're not trading him for pennies on the dollar. Other teams aren't trading for him without knowing how he returns from rehab. With the trade deadline being February 8, even if he does return before then, that's clearly not enough time to properly evaluate him.
He is not being traded. Any and all trade ideas or suggestions are just a masturbatory exercise in futility.

In a world where ACL Zach Levine can be traded for Jimmy Butler and Elbow Andrew Bogut could have been traded for Stephon Curry, I'm not calling anything impossible.

Ankle Steph Curry, though. Brings up an interesting thought. Any other injured guys you'd rather take a shot on?

Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
"Not a winning player" continues to be the dumbest confirmation bias label that's consistently heaped on players simply because they aren't franchise-changing superstars. I honestly don't know how Embiid's extension impacts negotiations with Jabari, if they even do at all.
Not surprisingly, it turns out the protections are limited and they're basically on the hook for all of that money unless they waive him after Year 1. You just can't structure these contracts like you can in say, the NFL. Huge amount of risk but it's easy for front offices to justify the potential reward. If I could lock him up on anything at or below 4-yrs $64 mil I'd do it in a heartbeat. If not, what other option do you have other than letting him hit RFA?

Re: Jabari Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract
A trade isn't impossible in the sense that another team wouldn't take a flyer on him. I mean, we can't out of one side of our mouth say no one would trade for him and the other side say we have to worry about him getting a max deal 9 months from now.
It would come to our management having the stones to do it for what we call here pennies on the dollar (but in reality that's the value of a guy with 2 torn ACLs about to demand a ridiculous contract) with that off chance it blows up in the GMs face if he stays healthy. GMs are deathly afraid of that type of mistake (Bowie over MJ type things) that everyone remembers and picks on them about. But they seem not to care about the mistakes of handing out irresponsible contracts. They can just say it's on the player for not trying or in this case can chalk it up to injury and bad luck. From a team building perspective, both are very bad mistakes but GMs are only afraid to do one out of self preservation attitudes.

I think people over estimate his value. Pennies on the dollar would apply to Jabari pre-injury, not post. It would be more like trading pennies for pennies at this point. You gotta remember, even if he somehow overcomes the ACL's, you know there is gonna be scar tissue, arthritis, knee soreness that will plague him for the remainder of his career, if he even has a remainder of his career. This is not a broken arm. I would much sooner call Jabari damaged goods vs a player destined to rebound and secure a max contract.

First thing to pop into my head as well. Just two completely discongruent thoughts. If his value is that of a max player next year, there is no way he's untradeable now. If he's untradeable now, there's no way he's a max player after 25 more games.

Not sure if you are arguing against waiting or not, but I'm in the group that thinks he will get the max in RFA. I just want to wait to make him prove he's healthy enough to be that guy and make sure he finishes the season healthy.

Your post is exactly spot on - but doesn't describe Jabari
He is now a young player coming off 2 ACLS on the same knee in 120 games, who used to be a 20+ ppg player

Sure, but I guess my stance is under the assumption that when he comes back in 2018 he still looks like the Parker he was in 2017.

I can buy that - but when talking about value, the 2 ACL's will forever be stapled to his resume and a major qualifier. One you can disregard a bit. No way you disregard 2. Also the lingering effects that will certainly creep up. One could argue that while young, he may have the knee of a 60 year old. Rhetorically speaking how can you argue different ??

The good news is this part of the debate will be resolved within a week. The October 16th deadline for an extension is almost here.

Jabari will still be a 20+ PPG scorer when hes on the court full time. I bet you thought there was no way he would score 20 a game last year

as long as the Bucks have as many outs in Jabari's contract as the Sixers have with Embiid's....I'm okay with paying 20 mil per
