Re: Official #2 Pick Thread - Ford #7: Parker
Is there anyone who would truly be pissed if we take any of Embiid, Parker, or Wiggins? I'm really not convinced any of the three will be better than the others
The Bulls are the absolute worst.

If we pass on Embiid I'll be distraught. To come that close to a franchise player and pass would unforgivable.
If Embiid goes to Cleveland and we take Parker I'll be pissed, but obviously hopeful that Parker is simply more than he showed at Duke. I worry is he's a natural ball stopper that doesn't care for defense. Maybe my biggest worry is he's not the automatic efficient 20 ppg scorer that he's labeled as; his numbers took a dive against better defenses. If he's coached up, that could change and maybe the pick pans out.
If Wiggins is the guy I won't expect much early on; he'll get the longest leash from me out of any of the prospects. The physical gifts are worth waiting on. I'll be cautiously optimistic.
If we take Exum I'm going to assume we got a kid who should soon be a top five point guard. I think we take a substantial jump in the standings next season. I wouldn't be upset with the pick at all. I'll have a nagging feeling that Wiggins may realize all that potential and we passed on it, but I think Exum ends up being really, really good.
My tiers are still:
1 - Embiid
2a - Wiggins
2b - Exum
4 - Parker

If Hammond is able to pull Jabari Parker and Marcus Smart out of this draft, he should get an extension.

Aside from him, what player would need to be available for us to think it'd be worth trading Knight / Henson / Middleton for #7?
My original suggested deal was Knight / Henson / Middleton / Udoh / #48 for #7 / Nash. Of course that could be simplified with fewer players, but I'd love to have even an ancient Nash playing 20-40 games here if he would be willing to.
Smart and only Smart, that's still high price to pay
There are a lot of people here who value our JAG off role players way too much. What I mean by JAG is JUST A GUY Wolters, Middleton, Henson, and to a lesser extent Sanders, are guys you can pick up relatively easily at any time. We need star power in the worst way, this draft is stacked, we need to go get another cornerstone player next our #2 pick.
We need to package our JAG off players - Knight, Wolters, Sanders, Henson and our 2nd round picks and take a big swing.
Yeah man you can find a 22 year old hitting 41.4% from 3 on a 1m> contract anywhere.

I'm still confused how everyone is convinced that embiid is going to be a franchise player..... He is the biggest risk in the draft. Did any of you watch Kansas this year or your just reading what other people are saying

If anything, Embiid has the highest floor of anyone in this entire class. He represents the least amount of risk.

Um I don't think you can find Sanders skill set at any time. And say what you want about Henson but you can find his talent at any time. And Middleton is still young and has good offensive skills. Comments like these are why you do what you do and we have gms to make decisions.
The one guy you fail to mention... ersan, he is a guy you can find at any time.

I did. I saw an incredibly gifted 7 footer who improved game by game and showed the ability to dominate on both ends.
What did you see?

I agree I saw the same, but at no point this past college season I was convinced he can be a franchise type player. I definitely can be wrong but I think we are at a state in the NBA of lack of great centers so any 7 footer with skills is going to be over hyped. Let's not get caught up and be safe with Wiggins or Parker. Even if embiid lives up to the hype I can live with drafting the other guys. Can you respect that at least

I feel as confident as someone who knows little about Sam Hinkie as most of us do can feel in saying that Hinkie will stay at 3...unless 3 + 32 (and something like Wroten or Sims can move the needle) moves him to 1.
Embiid...Parker...Wiggins...Exum.
At 3, Hinkie has his choice of at least TWO of those guys. He ain't giving up 10 to move up to 1...and I don't even think he gives up Thad (I think he would use Thad with 10 to move up to 7 or 8 to get one of Vonleh/Randle/Gordon).

I'm just saying if the Bucks draft Exum over Parker or Wiggins( potential allstars) I'm going to lose my sh#t. We can't afford to blow the #2 pick on potential, we need a player right away or else Seattle will get our team.

This is such nonsense, Philly fans acting like they and their front office doesn't care who falls to them at #3. You're telling this to fans of a team worried as heck that the right guy won't fall to 2. It's nice to step back and say that we can't go wrong since we're guaranteed one of our top two on the board no matter who those 2 players might be. But the truth is we're still worried sick that only one of these guys might be a legit franchise player and we just might miss out on him.
Bottom line: If Sam Hinkie has a clear no. 1 guy on his board, he sure as heck is trying to formulate a way to ensure that he gets that player. He won't play his cards (#10 pick) until he has to. He'll wait right up until the moment he knows his guy isn't going to make it to #3. And that very well might not be fully apparent until draft day. Until then he's not going to lose leverage and let it be known that he values one player above all others. Now he may or may not have one player head and shoulders above all others. But I can assure you of two things:
1- If Hinkie has 1 player alone at the top, in a tier of his own, the 10th pick is definitely worth parting with to him
2- No one, not Hinkie or any GM, scout, owner, coach, etc. has the top 3 players of the draft rated equally. Everyone has a favorite. It's just a matter of to what degree.

I like Middleton a lot and I wouldn't give him up for nothing...but he doesn't move the needle in any meaningful way and he doesn't have that much value around the league...teams wouldn't give us 1st for him.

I didn't include Ersan because imo he has negative/no value right now. Sanders, while a good player, isn't a top 10 center in the league and is a headcase. This board was really scared when Larry came back because he might derail the tank...but he isn't that much of a difference maker and we tanked on.
And I love your comment about that's the reason why we have a GM...I would have taken anyone on this board over Hambone any day of the week...because people on this board actually have a brain.

This.
And as someone who loves Embiid a hell of a lot more than anyone else in this draft, if I had the #10 and that was all it took to secure his services, I couldn't make that trade fast enough.

We have said nothing about Wiggins yet. We won't until draft day. We know Philly wants him. We know Philly has the assets to easily attain the number 1. My prediction is the first we hear of Andrew is when the bucks call his name at No. 2
