Powerful female characters is "woke" to a specific group of people these days.

I've been enjoying the hell out of the show. The production levels have blown me away so far.

I do think there's a point where it becomes more patronizing than "empowering" (here's looking at you that scene in Avengers: Endgame), but yeah, wasn't Galadrial supposed to be some badass and powerful Elf in the Tolkien books anyways? I am kinda glad that the diverse casting in both Rings of Power and HOTD is exposing the toxic and racist/sexist underbelly of nerd culture, specifically in the fantasy genre. I'm enjoying both series so far.

I've also been blown away, I've only watched the first episode but actually said to my kid about 15 minutes in "I can't believe this is just a tv show". Amazing production.

Any anyone bitching about, say, Galadriel being a lot either didn't read the books, or didn't pay attention when they did.

Yep! Galadriel was always a badass in the books and one of the more fearsome folks of Middle Earth.

Ahh so it's just some vocal idiots who are down on the show. Make sense, always some of those.

I feel like it's too early to really have much of an opinion but I'm definitely interested in watching more.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

I think they can probably nerd out a bit on some technical bits (like the timeline of whether she would have been married by now and not exclusively off hunting) with what I've seen so far vs. Tolkien (the father, or the stuff his son edited/added to); but I can't see how anyone could really debate that Galadriel being portrayed as a dominate force is not entirely consistent with how Tolkien wrote the character.

Probably because while she was described as powerful and a leader by Tolkien she was never really described as a warrior. If you take that to mean she was a badass warrior elf ok. But it's not suprising if people interpret that differently

The show really shouldn't be called Lord of the Rings. Cause nothing but problems and is destined to upset people when you mess with the lore of a beloved franchise and considering its not really worth it when they aren't allowed to use any of Tolkiens stories it would've solved a lot of issues if it just was it's own thing.

You want to hear people bitch? Wait till the twist that was Gandalf gets revealed

I’ll probably keep watching it, but in general I think: though the characters and settings are different, 99% of shows *feel* exactly the same. And that’s how I feel about Rings. It feels the same as every other show.

My guess is the overlap between the dorks threatened/upset by women and minority characters in fantasy movies and the incel community is VERY high.

I used to think people aren't dumb enough to buy into the "if people are critical of this we'll just say they're x,y,z" marketing strategy that started being used by studios to shield themselves from negative feedback.

My bad. That ones on me

I guess if people are dumb enough to be angry about any character’s appearance in a lore featuring elves, dwarves, hobbits, trolls, and orcs, truly anything goes.

It’s a good show. Just enjoy it.

Season four of What We Do in the Shadows was a let-down, I thought. The Baby Collin Robinson just never landed for me, and Schall's character is just not good.

I'm not totally sure if this is what you were referring to, but there was a Terminator movie where they tried to bill it as a dominant woman lead character and I think it flopped. So the marketing and social media angle was that sci fi fans were just unwilling to support a strong woman lead character. I found this hilarious because the core of that series was built around one of the most bad ass woman characters of all time in Sara Conner. It was just so hollow.

I recall the same thing being lobbed about the reboot of Charlies Angels. So they make a **** movie and then just want to bash fans that won't spend their money watching crappy movies.

Thor Ragnarok was one of my favorite movies, it was perfect and hilarious. Thor Love and Thunder was such a massive let down. I feel like Gor or whatever his name was could have had a longer runway in the Thor movies as well. Just really disappointed in a movie I was really looking forward to.

I'm definitely skeptical every time a movie/series PR team plays the "The negative reviews are just racist/sexist trolls" card, but I think that's actually pretty accurate in this case. I didn't know what the **** "review bombing" was until recently, and yes, I can definitely believe that there are that many pathetic losers in the nerd/Comic-Con culture-sphere that do nothing but spend their time on the internet tanking IMDB scores of stuff they haven't even seen yet. But that's why I don't even bother with reviews anymore. Just watch the show/movie and form your own damn opinion on it.

The home flip episode was great, but I agree the season as a whole was a let down. Matthew Berry is just so **** funny, Lazlo is one of my favorite television characters of all time.
