Giannis has the same issue. Secondly I would make Andre improve his handles in order to attack the rim even in half court offense.

I am excited to see his progress and really curious for our new schemes.

Its a great discussion to analyze ...
What is harder to improve Athleticism or Shooting ?

Its an opportunity for me to explain why I dislike Horst's taste on players and of course understand each other here. It seems this is the main reason of major disagreements on player's evaluation.

I’m just highly confused on how you think you can “improve athleticism” - all you can do is maximize it.

Giannis has ridiculously gigantic hands & underwent a growth spurt after entering the league. Couple that with his own personal struggles he's opened up about. Leading to the sports psychologist. His free throw shooting issues are his own.

AJJ should have an easier time becoming a consistent ft shooter.

People forget how good MCW was his rookie season. I’d take that kind of production in a heartbeat. Hopefully he’s closer to ROY MCW than Ben Simmons.

People also apparently forgot that he actually wasn't good.

I'd take a 6-6 Ben Simmons who shows up for every play.

MCW is special in that he's had a pretty long NBA career but also peaked year 1. Very odd.

But the bigger version with passing!

I get the lack of shooting is a big deal but I just can't think of a guy with this kind of athleticism/IQ/passing who didn't end up a good player.

The caveat is that AJJ runs like a deer, Marshall had the legs of a fawn. He definitely was an endearing player and very fun to watch.

We have seen 6"6 athletic defensive guys like MCW, we have seen IQ + Shooting + passing with Jingles, Intangibles nose for the ball with Donte, Dawg domination in PJ.

It's the IQ + passing + Athletic + Intangibles + Dawg combination that is unique here.

Things get a little confusing in the half court O with the way below average shooting. He will be a great cutter, dunker, secondary passer, floater. He needs full focus on the corner 3 and figure out the pick n roll against a crowded key.

Can see Dre running with a secondary unit like this

Dre / Grayson / Patty / Livingston / Portis

MCW wasn't much of a passer/floor general right? His main attribute was his size. I get that him and Dre can't shoot and are tall, but isn't that where it ends?

Both disruptive defenders and very good athletes who can’t shoot but that’s it. MCW never showed any true passing or vision skills and had a super low BBIQ. Dre is already better than MCW at both those things. Legit only question on Dre is can he/they find some way to utilize him in the half court that prevents teams from giving him the 2019 ECF Bledsoe treatment. If so, everything else he does means he will be a positive contributor (probably way earlier than most expect). If not, he’s completely unplayable because he’ll tank the entire offense. Basically, an inverted Nwora, if you will.

The passing and defense were definitely his calling cards coming out of Syracuse but his ball handling and scoring ability ultimately weren’t good enough for him to be an effective lead ball handler. There’s definitely some similarities between the two in terms of skill set but I don’t think they really played the same way. MCW was much more of a lead ball handler in college and was pretty much always trying to get to the rim and collapse defenses. MCW was the engine of the entire offense. Jackson was more just the caretaker. I also think while #TheProcess really worked for some, it was not a good environment for MCW at all. He had a lot of bad habits already, but the way Philly just didn’t really care at that point in time helped reinforce those habits in his game and then coming to our team with no spacing exacerbated it. He probably never would have been anything special anyways but Andre is in a much better position to develop IMO and maybe crucially is more aware of his strengths and weaknesses.

How's he compare to Evan Turner? A little better athlete with worse shooting?

I think the closest 1:1 comp by far, and granted it's not in perfect alignment, is Caruso. Not like Turner at all.

It's definitely close enough that if you've ever wished we had Caruso over the past couple years, you're going to be thrilled with this pick. Extraordinary role player who keeps things humming offensively and plays like he's one and a half guys defensively.

One player that I remember AG talking about and being so proud of his development was Dalano Banton. My guess is that AG sees Jackson with some similarities.
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.
