Maybe I'm biased *(and stupid when considering the past 2 months) but I think the Heat WITH Dame are comparable to the Bucks/Celtics next year. But if you switch Dame to Bucks/Celtics they are instant next tier favorites.

Also, as much damage as he has done to his legacy, I would put him close to Sam/Ray status if he requested to only play for the Bucks tomorrow :D

Agreed. If Miami added Dame and let's say the outgoing players are Herro, Caleb Martin, Jovic and Jacquez. That would mean that from last year to this year they've added Lillard, Thomas Bryant and Josh Richardson and have lost Herro, Martin, Jovic, Gabe Vincent and Max Strus. They've certainly lost depth, but I think they've gotten better overall. But its not this massive upgrade that would I think make them prohibitive favorites in the East.

Miami is the most desperate team here and that's why I really don't understand why Portland would cave anytime soon. Their backcourt right now consists of Tyler Herro coming off a broken hand, Josh Richardson, and a 37-year old cooked Lowry who's more likely to be waived and stretched than he is likely to be an adequate postseason rotation guy next year. Miami absolutely needs a Dame trade to save their offseason.

Dame has had the fastest public perception fall from grace for a sports figure since...

Fully agree with Marty, Dame to MKE puts MKE as clear title faves a notch above everyone else(assume its Jrue going out). Could probably say the same for a few other teams too. Going to MIA, they're still in the same pack of the 7ish title possible teams but not a notch above like if he came to MKE.

IDK, I doubt this gives him much of a hit at all outside basketball nerds. To the average fan he's just another star demanding a trade, like happens multiple times a year.

If he gets traded to Miami next week or at the beginning of August when they can trade Jacquez I think a lot of this goes away by the time the season starts. But Dame is or has been a very unpolarizing person and player throughout his career outside Portland. If there's still residual ire towards him that can easily take over because there probably won't really be a counter to it

Over/under on the number of tonight's ESPN top 10 plays that involve Wembanyama: 1.5.

Speaking of Hello World, younger posters may not know that the original usage, the Tiger Woods coming out party, happened in Milwaukee, at a public golf course (Brown Deer). It doesn't seem like 27 years ago that I watched that skinny kid hit his wedges a mile in the air for no reason other than clubhead speed that nobody ever saw before and he hadn't yet learned to control.

I remember that and then after the programming classes at milwaukee the first thing they taught day one was how to print, "hello world" on the screen.

I do think part of Dame's problem is timing. I think fans are starting to get sick of star players signing massive extensions and then basically demanding out immediately after. And it always seems to be to the same few teams. Like there is no reason Dame shouldn't be fine with a trade to numerous small market teams that are contenders(Milwaukee, Denver, Memphis, Sacramento, etc.) He's hardly the 1st player to do this and likely won't be the last but the tide seems to be turning against star players doing this now whereas most fans seemed ok with it a few years ago

I'm surprised DeJounte Murray extended for 4 years $120 million with Atlanta.

There were lots of reports that he wouldn't since he could have made much more if he would have waited for free agency.

Not like the Hawks in general and his fit in particular have been so great.

That said it's a lot of guaranteed money to risk.

Far cry from betting on himself FVV style, but considering the chances Atlanta has another dumpster fire season, he could have just wanted to lock in the pay day and be able to coast before demanding out.

Counterpoint: he is now guaranteed more money than he will ever need and either the Hawks sort out the fit issues (Trade Trae) or they trade him to a different team that is likely a better fit.

I get betting on yourself, but I’d take the money especially if my stats depended on Trae passing the ball instead of taking 35 footers with 20 on the shot clock.

Honestly can’t blame Dame. Portland made so many cowardly moves over the years and Miami’s assets are pretty solid. I don’t even like the fit with the rosters in Brooklyn or San Antonio.

Dame could’ve passed on the 2 year extension and Portland would’ve gotten nothing for him. If Giannis wanted out at 33 to go to a contender, I’d be totally fine with it.

If it was Middleton going out they d be even bigger favorites with a Dame/Jrue backcourt but sadly that ship has sailed

What if Giannis wanted out but demanded it be to one team who was only willing to give you some combination of Tyler Herro, the corpse of Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson, and a bunch of late firsts/garbage swaps? Then you asked for Martin and their last two draftees and they said no while Giannis’ agent tightened the screws by saying he would be unhappy anywhere else to strip you of the leverage to actually get the three semi-useful assets that you would want in the deal?

Because I get the vibe the Heat don’t want to give up anything besides picks and some combo of Herro/Robinson/Lowry and are trying to leverage Dame refusing to go anywhere else.

Honestly would not care. Especially when the alternative would’ve been him just walking and getting nothing in return. It’s not like that return is Marcus Morris, Batum and some seconds.

Portland drafted Dame’s replacement 3rd overall this year. They already shot themselves in the foot.
