Monroe's 25 and may not have hit his prime yet, we could be getting his prime years if we do manage to sign him.

Any other year and I'd agree with you 100%. In this year, I actually think we do have a compelling case to sell that the Knicks are a dumpster fire and if he wants to win and not have massive media pressure, MKE is the place to be.

Monroe would put up some serious stats in Milwaukee.

I'm just confused why people don't simply think maybe he's simply taking time to think over his decision before he commits to anything. That's a very real possibility guys but one that people will never accept if he does ultimately choose the Knicks

Careful. You'll be accused of only watching the box scores and not being a truly enlightened fan like those that want somebody else or nobody else.

I think Philly's approach to team building is going to fall flat and set that franchise back for years, but damn....I wish we could've taken advantage of the Kings FO like that.

Even if Stauskas continues to be a bum, a future protected 1st and right to swap picks in two separate drafts is one heck of a haul. Great trade for them.

I'm not saying he will sign here, but our fan base has a long history of defeatist and self loathing attitude...I'd guess it stems from that. The long standing desire to tank, also may not have worn off of some yet.

I think we have a shot now, precisely because the teams he wants are sort of stringing him along to the point where he may say F it, let me go to the team that wants me. I do think that we are not his top choice, the Knicks realize his interest in them and are leveraging it, and so his agent keeps throwing little bones like this out in the media hoping it'll spur action. I expect him to be a Knick by the end of the day today, but think we do have a small but decent chance at landing him.

The longer Deandre drags out his decision the better off we are...Phil Jackson seems to delusional to believe people wouldn't want to come to NY.

This is my first time chiming in here....

Monroe was someone I was indifferent on from the start. I really like him as a player, but I don't think we are one player away yet to become a force in the east. I was quietly hoping we could acquire Chandler for a 2-3 year deal, but certainly not for the contract he received :o . I'm glad we dodged that bullet. I was not in favor of Lopez either, even though he would make us a better team.

This is one of the first years in a long time where I am not feeling this desperate need to sign any significant free agent due to our young talent we have to look forward too.

However the more I look at Monroe, I'm starting to get excited about the possibility of signing him. The problem is as a Bucks fan, I've been here before. I have next to no expectation that we will sign him. But I feel more optimistic that we could land a player like Monroe for the 3 following reasons.

1.) Monroe would be our go to guy on offense. In NY, LAL, he would have to watch Kobe and Melo chuck up 30 shots per game.
2.) Jason Kidd
3.) We are an up and coming team with young talent that's on the rise.

#3 is something we haven't been able to say since FTD, and we all know how we botched that off season up.

Also, this off season is proving that markets mean nothing, but winning means everything.
"didnt you watch the game with the raptors?bucks is also a playoff team ,they have enough ability to find wins from dalas and utach,
blow jazzs bitches and mavericks bitches out !"

jakecronus8 wrote:Philly is kinda reminding me of the Cubs. Sell your fans a slow rebuild, while taking a Moneyball esque approach. Then after youve accumulated your young players and assets you can use other avenues like trades and free agency to finish off your team. Sad thing is that could be us, but we'd be even further along because we have Giannis and Jabari.

Why do people keep saying Philly is taking a Moneyball approach? Have you read Moneyball? For one, managing assets in baseball is completely different than basketball because there's no caps, so it's hard to compare an NBA free agent vs an MLB free agent. Two, Billy Beane actually advocates short term solutions and always upgrading - "You have to always be upgrading, or you're f***." Billy Beane was huge on broken down vets at the end of their career, and never advocates a tanking young-asset accumulation strategy. In 2002 (the season the book is based on), the A's lost Giambi, Isringhousen, and Johnny Damon to free agency. They did not tank for 4-5 years to acquire draft picks. They didn't flip Tim Hudson for more prospects. Instead, they signed David Justice and Hatteberg. So no, the 76ers are not taking a Moneyball-esque approach.

One thing to remember is the the 2011 CBA is massively at work right now, doing the job intended.

Because they banned the ability for free agents to force sign and trade deals using Bird rights and the 7.5% raises, it leveled the playing field. Otherwise LAL would be forcing guys to demand sign and trades getting full Bird rights contracts.

It has made a massive difference. For the first time we don't see the free agent stars or ESPN agitating to get them to big markets. The money they leave on the table with their current teams can't be traded with them anymore.

I'm fine with Monroe or Rolo. But if we land neither and can't find a tier 2 FA for that money, then I'll be upset we didn't do a Hinkie and take the Kings deal.

@WojYahooNBA: Free agent Greg Monroe will sign a maximum contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, league source tells Yahoo Sports.

Honestly, how do you blame the Bucks if they don't sign Monroe? What 5 is out there and realistic that they have not taken some sort of run at? If they strike out in free agency it's mostly because they just don't have enough of a track record of winning yet to be considered sexy - couple that with the small market and it just might be too much of an uphill battle right now. If they whiff in free agency I'm sure they'll look at trades to try and upgrade at center.
