Why would that source share info w/ Vecenie ever again? He threw AJJJ(Jr) up as the 33rd pick, which was accurate. Then shortly after was compelled to bump it up to 23 because it tipped the Bucks' hand and they badly wanted him.

BTW, I think I'd dislike Oso as the 33rd pick, more than AJJJ at 23. At least I can kind of see what they're going for w/ AJJJ. Oso's a t-rex 4 w/ no outside shot. What is that doing for us now or later. Hope he's wrong on that one, unlike the other.

it was an awful draft for the top 5-10

not at all awful by the time u get to 23

actually deep af

Eh I do not agree, the fact Oso is mocked around #30 tells me all I need to know. Oso is awful as a diehard Marquette fan. People always say drafts are deep when you get in the 20s and 30s because **** gets muddied together

oso is probably my least favorite guy to be consistently mocked in that range....

if you looked at the other guys you'd probably like them better too

Horst has definitely developed a reputation for bucking draft consensus and falling for these tools-y guys he thinks everyone else is overlooking. The problem becomes at what point do you maybe start to re-think your whole talent evaluation process if you just keep missing on these dudes? Rooting for him to succeed, but if this kid doesn't pan out, this should be the last draft pick Jon Horst makes for this team. Hell, he might even be long gone by the time Johnson develops into a decent NBA rotation player in 3-4 years.

He wouldn't be mocked there if the draft was perceived better tho :dontknow:. I was doing a bit of research for the Bucks pick and didn't really fall in love with a single prospect. I wanted Holmes only really, if he was gone I was pretty indifferent

WeMajor34 wrote:Regardless of how anyone feels about the pick, it’s just a blatant misuse of assets. Taking a guy at #23 that would’ve for sure been there at #33 just feels like Horst trying to be cute. I can’t help but get the feeling that he wanted his Hammond-Giannis moment. We could’ve easily traded down like New York with OKC for 5 seconds.

Obviously we know nothing about the kid, so I’ll patiently wait to see what Horst saw in him. I just don’t understand how a win-now team by far took the biggest swing in a draft that may or may not pay off.

He’s a lotto ticket. We needed a win-now contributor.
We are an extremely flawed contender who need immediate help from youger players. This guy will not see anyime soon.

We have a 2, maybe 3 year window, are restricted on trades due to 2nd apron, need to get more athletic, better defenders, and took a project that will take 2-3 years to contribute.

Please stop saying he was a reach. The guy who nailed Johnson to Milwaukee in his mock today specifically mentioned that the Bucks may not have believed he would make it to #33 because of who Johnson worked out for.

Those teams all also had mid or late 2nd round picks. Nobody was taking this project.

he's the guy who had insider info

did he have him at 32 a week or two ago?

or only after he knew horst had fallen in love?

I found a mock from 3 months ago and he did not have him top 32

btw I meant big board not mock draft, not that I made that clear, or it matters at all

Imagine being in that war room like, "We can't draft this guy at 23, Givony has him going later."

Can someone internet sleuth their way into finding out who these guys are / what happened here?

Or barring that come up with the funniest fan fiction.
