I don't think the Shawn Respert pick was that bad. He was like a prototype Steph Curry in college. Nobody could've possibly predicted he'd get stomach cancer during his rookie season. Poor guy.

Respert was a fifth year senior when he finally made All American. Curry left after his junior season and didn’t redshirt. Compare Respert’s first three college seasons with Curry’s and you’ll see they are not close.

Steph nearly dragged Davidson to the final four with no other future NBAers on the team. Respert never got past the second round while having at least two or more future NBAers on his team every year of his career. He had Eric Snow as his backcourt mate his entire career.

Don’t forget, we gave up an extra number one to move up from 11 to 8.

It was part of that series of years where we’d give up future #1’s to move up.

11 to 8 for Respert

9 to 6 for Tractor

15 to 9 for Przybilla

And in all three moves we washed out

Oh I remember. I was sitting with my buddy watching that going, watch they'll take Respert. He was so excited, I said I'd be happy if he made the team.

The cancer was obviously a disaster, but I don't personally believe it had anything to do with his (lack of a) career.

It was a horrendous pick. The guy was never gonna be an NBA player.

You guys still bummed about missing out on Kurt Thomas and Theo Ratliff? That draft outside of the Top-5 was doo-doo butter lol.

He has made life harder from Tyrese Maxey to Steph Curry to Naz Reid, grabbed rebounds out of position, used his speed to create mismatches in transition and clearly makes an effort to move the ball. All in all very positive. If his TS and FT% creep up with a better shot diet, great.

What I like now is that we have 3 or 4 guys (KPJ) who can beat their man to create a shot. Khris is one of the best tough shot makers of all time but rarely got defenses scrambling. The more of that, the more GTJ, AJ and TP are getting wide open looks and the more our offense hums.

Still unhappy that this felt like another trade where we unnecessarily gave up value (selling low) but I see the bones of us being better right now with more flexibility going forward. The Kuzma/Green/Rollins/KPJ contracts might look amazing next year.

Yeah, I think my favorite thing about Kuzma on this team so far is that if you get a big center switched onto him, he's taking that dude. Gobert couldn't stay with him at all. That's important.

I was big-time TeamRatliff.

But yeah that draft sucked.

Little known fact (maybe) about the 1995 draft.. a notable undrafted player was Eric Brunson (played 9 seasons) who is Jalen Brunson's father and an assistant coach on the Knicks.

I don't fault the Bucks for taking Respert. He was a huge deal back then. My disappointment was missing out on Damon Stoudamire. He was my favorite player for a few years.

Looking back, Finley would have been the best choice. You have to wonder if he had come out when his stock was highest the previous season if the Bucks could have landed both he and Robinson.

I didn't know much about most of the guys in that draft outside of the Big Ten. All I knew was I wanted Finley in the first round and Griffith in the second round to keep the Wisconsin duo together.

Disappointed Griffith never turned out, but there were enough signs during his college days that I should've seen that coming.
