Agreed. I have such a hard on for Smart especially after watching countless years watching Redd, Mo, Jennings get abused for so many years on defense.

If you look at the all defensive teams the last few years, most guys that end up on this list are star two way players.

I would trade Giannis for any of Embiid, Parker or Wiggins. I'd probably hold onto him rather than trading him for any of Exum, Smart, Vonleh, etc. I think Giannis is probably on those guys level as a prospect (Exum/Smart)... but he has already proven a bit in the NBA, so that probably makes him a little more valuable in my eyes at this particular time.

I like Smart quite a bit, but him being a good defender right now means nothing with regards to him being a two way player. It's no secret offensive output is taken into account when all defensive teams are selected.

Tell me how you feel about us drafting Wiggins at 2, then getting another lotto pick (8 or whatever) and drafting LaVine..............

LaVine
Wiggins
Giannis
Ersan (replaced in future)

I'm with you. I'd take Embiid/Wiggins or Embiid/Parker over any combo with Giannis.

And I am a big Giannis fan.

Would not want LaVine that high. I'd rather take a chance on Elfrid Payton at that spot.

I'm in the camp that thinks LaVine can be just as good defensively as Payton. Also think his offensive potential is higher. I like both guys. I just think with Giannis, LaVine can play PG

I would not give up Giannis...I am not saying I have a high level of confidence he will be better than any of the top 4, but I don't have a high level of confidence any of the top 4 will be better than Giannis.

Factor in he is really well loved by the city and just his character / work ethic...Wouldn't do it.

If Exum wants to succeed in the NBA, he had better get stronger and be able to play with physicality. That has been my biggest fear for him. Even in middle school, if I could see a kid shying away from physical contact, who was also a good player, we could make sure to exploit that and "take him out of plays". I think that can be a result of everything being "organized" and not many neighborhood pick-up games. I learned to play physical at the neighborhood park, certainly not some organized rec league type thing.

This is right where KJ McDaniels is going.. Absolutely love his athleticism and potential for where he is going. He has come out of nowhere and because of that is low on draft boards. Big time sleeper and a great potential piece to add to the core of Giannis and the #2.

A good piece on him --- http://www.peachtreehoops.com/2014/3/1/ ... anta-hawks

Can someone clarify how the salary cap is impacted by 2nd round picks? I thought they did not count toward the luxury tax for some reason.

If so, you would have to think cap starved teams would move out of the 1st to acquire 2 seconds? A team like Miami could benefit from a #26 for #36/48

ZaZa for Perkins/29

Ersan for Lin/25

I am having a tough time seeing some good fits...

It's weird, but I think the playground thing can divide in both ways. Some kids teach themselves to play through contact, some learn to avoid it.

I don't think Exum has a problem with contact, I think he has a problem with strength and physical maturity.

Contracts for 2nd round picks are not guaranteed, so they count against the cap unless you cut them. Miami and a few other teams over the years have essentially sold their late firsts for cash considerations.

We should be all over some late round picks. I really, really want Stokes and don't think he lasts into the second round.

Only time will tell emunney, and I truly hope he can make that adjustment. I did see the playground thing with my son across 3 different sports. So many of the kids didn't play anything but organized games and very, very few of them could play a more physical brand of the sport. In thinking about it, most of them that could had older brothers

ETA: One thing I do know, based on what has worked in defending Exum, he'd better get pretty darn used to physicality 'cause he will be be seeing a bunch of it next year until he can prove he can handle it.

Jennings was the king of the playground ball, and he avoided/couldn't get through hard contact. Some players can do it, others can't.
