Significantly below average. The bucks seem to do a good job of hiding players defensive deficiencies, but we'll see.

To my eye he's quite a good team defender who suffered in a Kings system with no plus defenders. Imagine trying to stop the leaks with Hield, Bagley or whatever other wings/bigs they played. He's got really high BBIQ, great hands and length. He doesn't have the upside of DDV but "significantly below average" seems off.

I'll give you that playing for Sacto can give misleading defensive "stats." But between him and Hield, I'd have more confidence in Hield.

he will make atleast 2 all star games as a Buck

Yeah, I think NBA players can buy All-star game tickets.

One skill that BB has is the ability/knack to be able to create separation from his defender. It's really quite wonderful to watch. This ability/knack is equally important in his ability to create his own shot (something desperately needed last year), or to make the right pass.

Better than most I guess.

That's the beauty of all this - everyone is a threat at the end of the game. They can't just say take away x,y,z. It's the whole damn alphabet.

A smart team will collapse on Giannis as per normal and then fan out immediately if the ball goes elsewhere or Giannis kicks it.
But yeah having another sniper gives you options for a play they didn't see coming. Couldn't quite do it with Korver because he didn't move very well and also had to sit him for long stretches, but Bogdan is young and will definitely finish games for us. Especially coming out of screens from the left he's as deadly as they come. Add Khris at the corner & Giannis at the other wing, can't keep your eyes off either of them, and Jrue with the ball in his hands ready to take anyone to the basket as soon as they even think of giving help, and yeah you have a bit of a problem trying to defend against that. Will give headaches even to the Spo/Stevens/Nurses of this world.

Key to everything? Giannis need to learn to pass over his head. That's all he needs to do when he's swarmed: pivot and turn to the basket, see where his players are and pick one, which is really not that hard for someone his size. Just look how Jokic does it when the defender gets too close, he puts the ball over his head and pivots to the basket by putting his right foot between the defenders legs which forces him to back up or risk getting his balls bruised. Instead, Giannis tends to turns his back to the basket (that's his guard instincts), then bends down and tries to eyeball his teammates with the corner of his eye with two defenders crowding him from behind. And his pivot foot stretched 5 feet behind him. How many times have you seen that scene? And it usually ends with the ball at the stands or Giannis having to lift his pivot foot and travelling. It's the downside of Giannis trained as a guard from a young age, he never learned some big man moves, and they are essential even if he has to use them at the 3pt line. Even Lebron and Luka do it.

Thank you for writing this out and actually improved my basketball literacy. I’ve been trying to think of why Giannis is so sloppy and gets hammered with non calls sometimes and honestly if he held the ball higher he would probably get more calls to boot?

Bogs is probably a better fit next to Holiday - but I think that there is a solid chance Donte is the better player going forward.

Max Redd takes umbrage at this Miguel Rojo erasure.

Saying Bogdanovic is better than Redd is ludacris. If we had Redd instead of Mid either of the last two seasons we win the championship.

yeah, I think the problem is in his mind he's 100% a guard, and guards typically don't hold the ball over their heads and pass this way. Looks more like something a big would do. And yet it's so simple and effective for oversized guards, look how much lebron & luka are doing it.

I regret that I did Mike dirty like that.

What I was trying to say, is that if BB hits open shots, runs some offense, and is passable on defense.. we are lucky to have a guy like that at the position in his prime.

Gosh... would Redd be perfect on this team or what.

You guys are going to love Bogdanovic. Smart smart player. Only knock is he's not a good defender.

We need a wing defender. Justin Holiday? Jamychal Green? Big Dog's son?

Bogdan's going to draw the worst perimeter defender and get to dance in the pick and roll with Giannis and it's going to be beautiful.

He’s also not a horrible defender though, right? Mediocre seems like the word.

I'd be happy with those 5 and 7 thanasis to be honest. Straddle Khris/Bogdan and Giannis/Jrue in the line up, let them have all the shots, and let the multiple thanasis run around like chickens with no head, chase every rebound on both ends, block, chase down, box out and foul people. Just make sure your starting 5 are all on the floor in the last 10 minutes.

Yeah this is a really nice post. I think I remember Shaq doing this a fair bit too, but that might be an invented memory. He was a good passer tho...

You are acting like how I would be if we got Smart. I am very jealous. If it works out you have at least 5 years of taking victory laps. If it doesn't work out, you will be sent to Realgm jail.

This is the life we have chosen.

Can't imagine how you'd react if Bucks got Randle.

These jabronis saying DD is better than Bogdan, come on. It's not like he's 19; Miami exposed him; Tyler Herro and Dragic made him look like he was in 1st gear. Pressure shooting wasn't there. Big gamble thinking he's going to be near Bogdan going forward.
