Hornets fan cited that the Plumlee's have a NC connection -- maybe MJ took that into consideration:

BTW the Plumlee brothers, including Miles, played high school ball (Christ School) here in Asheville. Welcome back to WNC!

Cool trade. I generally hate hammond but have to tip my cap on this one.

Well only slight tip because he still shouldn't have given plumlee that goddamn contract in the first place.

Woj:

https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/sources-bucks-trade-miles-plumlee-to-charlotte-for-roy-hibbert-spencer-hawes-203413499.html

The Milwaukee Bucks have traded Miles Plumlee to the Charlotte Hornets for 7-footers Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes – and released forward Steve Novak, league sources told The Vertical.

Charlotte and Milwaukee have a trade call set for Thursday afternoon with the league office, sources said.

The Hornets have been determined to upgrade their rebounding and defense in the frontcourt and consider Plumlee an upgrade. Milwaukee had been motivated to trade one of its two centers on long-term deals – Plumlee or Greg Monroe, league sources said.

Plumlee makes $12.5 million this season and has two years, $25 million-plus left on his four-year contract.

Charlotte considered Hibbert a failed experiment, and Hawes’ role had substantially decreased with the emergence of 2015 first-round pick Frank Kaminsky.

Hibbert has an expiring contract, and Hawes has a player option on the $6 million owed to him in 2017-18.

Charlotte is planning to sign center Mike Tobey from its Greensboro NBA Development League franchise to a 10-day contract, league sources told The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

Milwaukee clears salary cap space in the deal, which, in part, will help in working to re-sign restricted free-agent forward Tony Snell to a contract extension. Snell’s value has increased because of a solid season with the Bucks.

Another nugget that came out of their thread was that Charlotte had interest in Plums in the offseason. Could be we didn't actually bid against ourselves?

Yes, I agree. But when someone has to be so thin skinned to say that they can't root for hawes because he voted for trump, I can't let that stand. It's that type of hate filled bigotry that led to what happened in Berkeley last night.

I don't associate or befriend people who are alt-right, why should I willingly cheer for them on a basketball court? Especially if they aren't even a good player. It seems you are going to let that stand.

And what does what happened in Berkeley have to do with anything? They canceled because the student body didn't want him there, freedom of expression.

Since when is Hawes alt-right? Do you even know what that means? And those were professional paid protestors, not students, creating a scene.

RealGM isn't a safe space, so quit trying to make it one. Now go back to your hot chocolate and coloring books and leave the adults alone.

Did Woj mean Henson here?

Milwaukee had been motivated to trade one of its two centers on long-term deals – Plumlee or Greg Monroe, league sources said.

He also references Snell's extension...but not sure if that is speculation on his part or if Woj's sources told him we want to resign Snell even if he's expensive:

Milwaukee clears salary cap space in the deal, which, in part, will help in working to re-sign restricted free-agent forward Tony Snell to a contract extension. Snell’s value has increased because of a solid season with the Bucks.

My guess is that this mean Monroe won't be opting out, Hammond said he paid Plumlee because he thought if Monroe opted out he wouldn't have a center next year.

Why can't we ever be happy with the space, and pick our spots when they come? Instead when we're opening up space it's to close it immediately with an over-priced player we've predetermined we're going to pay what it takes to acquire who fits a specific, smallish role at the time.

Are we suuuure he's an RFA? Better offer 4/$60m just to be on the safe side.

Seriously though, it's fair game to point out that Hammond is always cleaning up his own mistakes, but to me that just means he's average. They need a better gm (and more patient owners!) to get to the next level, but we have Giannis, Khris, Thon, and Malcolm,* and now we have a brighter future because this was the hardest guy to trade.

*You can count Jabari too, but that was a pretty obvious pick so nobody gets credit for that.
Wut we've got here is... faaailure... to communakate.

So who do we cut for the roster spot? Novak or Vaughn?

I know where I'm putting my money.....

Is Hawes more of a 4 or 5 do you think?

We have another stretch 4 in Teletovic who has been seriously underwhelming here. If Hawes is set to take the few minutes he has been getting I wonder if Telly's on his way out next in a follow up deal.

They are relatively different beasts from 3 from what I've seen- Spencer is more of a stand and catch/set shot dude, Telly can do that as well but also can shoot with movement/coming off a screen.

Kidd's offensive sets just don't seem built around Telly's strengths because there looks to be so little movement around the court, it doesn't look like they've put any real thought into it (which maybe why Telly seems to have slumped since arriving in Milwaukee).
