Based on everything we know right now, it's very likely Giannis signs the supermax

I can't see him giving up that pile of cash to go chase something somewhere else.

He's just not like other NBA stars.

Yes, I'm very serious about not losing the best player in the league for nothing.

If he doesn't sign that super-max that means we F'd this coming season and he's gone. Have to trade him at that point.

The only reason he doesn't sign next summer is if he's leaving. Yes you trade him. But it's not happening. We'll hear plenty from salty Raps fans on the subject.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Because Giannis is not like other NBA players, I could see him giving up a pile of cash for plenty of reasons. I would be pretty surprised if he doesn't consider his current pile of cash to be more than sufficient. It's insane, this guy's pile of cash.

Exactly. Giannis already took a paycut, when he didn't have to. He's said that he's set his family up for life.

If his girlfriend wants him to go-to California, it might be enough, no matter what happens.

Finding a trade partner for Giannis that makes it worth it would be tough imo. Assuming he stays with the team you trade him to long term their future firsts suddenly become weak. So the team needs to have strong prospects/players and or other teams picks.

You're giving up a shot at a title by dealing Giannis. A borderline all-star and weak pick or two for example is not worth it for me. Which teams have those assets that are still set up to contend after dealing them away (otherwise why would Giannis want to go there/the team gives up assets)? Tough balance.

You gotta trade Giannis if he doesn’t sign the super max.

Imagine Giannis taking another paycut so that the Bucks have the cap space to MAX more players like Khris Middleton.

LMAO.

Nah, he's signing the supermax but even in a theoretical world where he doesn't, you try and win it all that year in order to get him to reconsider. This franchise waited 40 **** years for a player like him to come around again, and I'm not just tossing even one season as a legit championship contender out the window for a gaggle of draft picks that may or may not, one day, make us a consistent playoff team again.

Middleton didn't get the max.

I stand corrected. Very Very close to the MAX.

It makes zero difference, the point still stands.

I'd take 1 year of Giannis over what ever we would get for him in a trade. I'd rather be a top 3 contender for 1 season than be a 46 win team for 4 or 5 seasons.

Yeah, I'm not willing to give up on Giannis until he does on us. Going down with the ship!

We're likely not a contender if Giannis wants out. Can't see how the situation wouldn't turn toxic either. Of course you trade him.

If Giannis won't sign the super max, there's not a trade in this universe that can replace what he means to the franchise. And after we trade him, the chances of us getting anything in return that could someday make us a serious contender again are VERY VERY VERY small. So i'm going to Giannis and saying, "Okay buddy, we respect your decision. But let's take one more ride into the sunset together and see where the chips fall." And we go for that title. It's our best and probably only shot.

HOWEVER...

Ownership is going to feel differently. Ownership wants to sell tickets. Ownership likes to hold that carrot out for us to chase (and spend money). So they are going to want to get something in return that will keep us as close to contention as possible (keep us marketable as a "premium" product, even though some of us will know that we may as well just swap rosters with the Knicks at that point. The masses will buy in for a while. People need things to do on the weekends, things to look forward to.

Basically, they will turn us into the Pacers. No chance in hell every single year, but hey, the team's not bad! We've got an outside shot of having an outside shot and that is JUST exciting enough for me to grab that hoodie for my nephew for christmas.

Yeah, if Giannis goes i'm checking out.

I guess trading him is our one piece of leverage to push Giannis to sign the extension early.

I just don't see the Warriors threat as realistic. Everything i have read says they have to trade Klay/Green just to make it work. Plus does Giannis really think joining a 33 year Steph is the best route.

The Warriors angle is hilarious. Never-mind that they just inked Klay, Russell, and Draymond to monster deals, but Steph's super-max contract runs up until the 2022 offseason. Just typical ESPN rumor garbage with absolutely no realistic scenarios/substance.

I'd still keep him and roll the dice on a championship run and changing his mind. If he walks, he walks.

It's not likely to find any value comparable to what Giannis is

You take every minute of trying to win a ring with Giannis, there is no moving on from a player like him. We'd be owed a few number 1 picks from the draft that's for sure.

If it's nothing vs a package comparable to what New Orleans got for Davis (Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks – including the No. 4 overall), I'd take the package. I think you're crazy if you wouldn't.
