Is 500 Days of Summer the GOAT romantic comedy? Positive reacts only.

Netflix's ability to repackage garbage as their own new big thing is pretty impressive. Waco is a crappy miniseries from 2 years ago and yet a bunch of my friends are watching it and talking about it because its the first thing you see when you open Netflix.

Is it a comedy? It's pretty damn depressing for like half the movie.

I liked it a lot initially, but when you realize that Tom is a villain it looks worse in retrospect.

Id have to think about it but off the top of my head, Crazy, Stupid Love comes to mind when I think about decent romcoms. Five Year Engagement as well, but then I wonder where you draw the line. Would you consider Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Knocked Up as romcoms. Those are both stellar as well.

What makes a rom com? Is it the relationship being central to the plot, or is it centering both characters? Stuff like 500 Days of Summer, 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up are really stories about the main character growing up, where the relationship is just structure for that personal story.

Anyway the GOAT is When Harry Met Sally.

"Roman Holiday" is probably GOAT.

Villain is a loaded word for me, I can't classify Tom that way just b/c of his life philosophy. Both he and Summer have very loathable qualities though and at various points I find myself hating both.

I also think it's pretty distinguishable from movies like 40y/o Virgin or Knocked Up (shoutout to the Crazy, Stupid, Love mention) where it falls pretty firmly in the rom-com category no matter where you draw the line.

One thing I love is how they achieve a happy (positive is probably a more apt word here) ending by subverting the happy ending trope.

Some Like it Hot & His Girl Friday are two old school personal favorites.

Does the Princess Bride count?

Both great and I think Princess Bride has to count (also great).

Jerry Maguire, especially if you take away the forced use of the word "Qwan" or "Quan".

Been watching Billions. Not sure why I haven't gotten into it over the last few years but it's **** good. Hopefully will get caught up for the new season.

Wags is clearly the best character on the show but I got to say I've been low key really into Spyros' growth on the show since changing teams. Called himself the greek freak which is a winner in my book.

Yea it's one of the best shows going these days. If you haven't watched yet also go with Succession. Don't get discouraged the first few episodes, it's kind of set up and then it really takes off and is also one of the best right now

I've heard that from others about Succession. I originally watched the first couple and then quit. I'll revisit.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
