Surely we can just revise the contract to guarantee the second year, thus making it an Early Bird deal rather than cutting into the MLE.

Unless they wre actually planning on wasti...spending some of the MLE on him.

We don't need 11 if we are smart with minutes, but you need at least 8 viable players with the bench having a competent PG, wing, big.

If we re-signed him using early bird rights the max we could pay would be 175% of his last contract, which was $1.6m. That is... not close to $3.9m.

No. We could have paid him up to like 8.8m to keep him via early bird rights.

I am beginning to wonder if Giannis told these tools he won’t be signing an extension. Awfully bold of them to tell Giannis they are willing to go into the luxury tax to create a winner, then in an obvious manner make a move to avoid the luxury tax and not make this team significantly better.

Yeah I made another post after realising the bit about 105% of last year's average salary.

Do we have other NBA people in our front office or is Horst in a room by himself trying to figure it all out?

Dude, I hope there’s a plan but at this point this is really embarrassing. There’s no way they didn’t know this would eat into the MLE, they’re going cheap. What a joke.

It’s not my money but wouldn’t the increase in value from a championship and/or keeping Giannis way more than offset anything lost in paying the tax?

Can't blame Giannis if he decides to leave this incompetence.

I can't believe the FO is so useless, they are inept sure, but so much? is it possible?

I can't believe they will make so obvious they are not willing to spend even 1.6m on luxury tax and are signing this Pat contract

I don't know what to believe. I know what would I do if I was Giannis

Hey guys, beginning to think it’s not a great idea to hire FedEx drivers to run your basketball team and an owner who views it as his fantasy team.
