How much is the trade kicker? Probably makes back that money in Texas with half his games not being taxed by the state.

Also makes sense for him if he knows LeBron is retiring soon and will be on a team that isn’t rebuilding.

That may be a rationale for trading Luka instead of extending him. You never know what's going on behind the scenes, too.

I'm just not sure what the rationale is for not shopping him around the league. There are probably a dozen different trade scenarios that would have fielded the Mavs better compensation.

I'd bet against that. I think a not insignificant part of this move was going all-in on Kyrie as the primary ballhandler.
