Does "retire" mean "leave the house forever" in Australia?
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

I'm only 30 and I've had plantar fasciitis for four years. Sprained my patella tendon in my knee falling on a hill on a fishing trip in Canada a few years ago and it still bothers me. Can't throw a football anymore because something is wrong with my shoulder that flares up when doing chest lifts at the gym. Also have issues with the piriformis muscles in both hips. I'm already retired from full court basketball, but I hope to be able to play again at some point in the future.

Sleep dependence, sleep cycle disturbance, and in some people it can also have the opposite of the intended effect (similar to some peoples' experience with NyQuil).

Totally fine short-term. It should not be a long-term solution to sleep issues IMO.

I'm with you here, though it is my current solution.

It generally has the right effect on me so that is a positive.

I never want to become dependent on anything, really. I think it's a little bit better than some of the other short-term OTC suggestions (benadryl, etc). It was always my once/month thing if I couldn't sleep. Between not knowing what the hell was going on for a month + the initial onset I was overusing (again, this is generally not helpful past 3-5 mg) melatonin and a cocktail of other things. I'm down to just 3 mg melatonin and I'm trying to only use it if I've tried to sleep for an hour and can't (still most nights).

I'm shooting for getting over this on my own first. The actual anxiety that I feel is pretty much gone. I just sit there, feeling totally relaxed, unable to tip over the edge to sleep now. I focused a bit more on meditating last night and that helped. I've conquered stuff like this before.

If not, I know that there are any of the prescribed drugs that would be useful for me down the line. I think I should avoid going that route with a newborn in less than 2 months. I don't want to take something that conks me out for the entire night then, anyways.

Also Kerb, something else I've used very effectively is a magnesium supplement. And when I thought it might just be a placebo effect I upped the dose and it knocked me the hell out. Could be a good non-rx alternative to melatonin.

Kerb, you gotta give CBD a shot. I've never been a "night owl," and generally sleep like a rock when one of my kids or pets isn't waking me up, so I can't relate. But CBD immediately helped my wife with her sleeping and anxiety issues. After she started working out every day about 6 months back, she gave up the the CBD, as she felt she didn't need it anymore. But she said that initial trial of CBD was life changing. Zero side effects. At least for her.

That's definitely on my list. I think someone many pages back claimed there were issues for some, but if I don't knock this thing out myself soon, I will be going with something like CBD and try to work myself off of it.

I'm on a weird timeline here where even if I fix it I'll have a **** for 3 months of a newborn up all night. So if I haven't figured something out then, I will be trying a lot of this stuff after that kid starts sleeping through the night.

For fun/comparison, what's the recovery time slated at? I broke mine at I think 13 or 14 and I was in a walking shoe/boot for 3 weeks and took a week or 2 of therapy just to get used to walking on it again. I think it was hairline and they were being overly cautious with it.

Damn, it's too bad I didn't catch this glitch when it was live.

So downtown Madison is basically on fire. Anyone able to gather anything? I'm trying to follow on Twitter but the reports are either off, or there are a dozen fires.

From what I can gather, the station off East Wash had a huge explosion and started on fire. Power started going down, and it overloaded the substations. I've seen confirmation (and pictures) that the substation near Ogg Hall/Kohl Center is on fire, then separate tweets/speculation that the substation on Charter, one in Maple Bluff, and possibly one on the west side also are on fire. Not sure what to believe.

Man, crappy day to be without power. Hope everyone is ok. Our electrical grid is poopy.
