Regular season game at least mean something. It determines whether you make the playoffs or not and what seed you'll be.

I'll give it a chance, but I'm not really a fan of it. I get wanting to make the regular season more meaningful, but I just don't think people are going to care about some mid-season cup. I guess we'll see...

Well then good news for you, you can treat these games as regular season games because they are

Should've put teams from East and West in the same groups to spice it up.

I like the idea of group winners getting extra picks. I would take it a step further and give the tourney winner lottery chances.

League wants fans to get more interested in the regular season? 60 games and no B2B. Never happen of course.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Teams should conspire to load manage their best players for this tournament and make Silver look like a **** idiot.

Why would any current players care about their team getting second round draft picks? I don't understand that idea.

I think the hope is these guys are competitors and being able to say you won something matters, and the prize money helps. It won't matter to guys on big contracts but $500K is something for a guy on a minimum or 5-10 mil contract.

I think you can do both. Give the players the 500k and award a draft pick to the winner. You'd get coaches & Front offices on board with the draft pick and the players on board for the money

I don't know how you can ever make winning this cup feel in any part prestigious at all and because of that there's a good chance this experiment will end up being pointless but I give credit to Silver for at least trying something.

I think players will somewhat try but you’re not gonna get playoff level effort or even close to it, none of the top guys are gonna want to go balls to the wall for a mid season tourney just to get injured and have that compromise the rest of their season and potentially the postseason too. I don’t mind the idea too much but if the top guys aren’t gonna really go all out for it then it kinda just feels like changing stuff up for the sake of changing stuff up. Which I guess is fine, I don’t mind them trying new stuff out.

The one good thing is that the Sixers can win this mid season tourney and have a banner to hang next to the 2019 Xmas Day Champs banner.

I don’t really see downside with this tournament. Worst case scenario, players don’t take it seriously just like they don’t take the regular season seriously but the league makes a little more money maybe.

Best case scenario, it actually catches on and makes the regular season a little more watchable.

Keyonte George is pretty nice

I don't think it's supposed to feel prestigious. It's just a change in format of regular season games that are part of the path to the sport's ultimate prize: The Larry O'Brien. I agree that I give Silver credit for trying to make the regular season more exciting.

My biggest complaint about the tournament is that the Finals do not count towards the regular season. It could be two elite teams playing each other with home court implications, but instead it's just about $300k. Regardless this tournament immediately becomes the most exciting part of the regular season to me. My mind goes to ways to make the other 76 regular season games more interesting because that's still going to be a trog.

Yeah not a soccer fan so I guess I don’t understand the motivation to win the cup. I mean lose so you can rest instead of a worthless trophy that nobody cares about

The soccer comparisons aren’t really mentioning the actual solution to teams not caring about the regular season: eliminating the playoffs entirely and making the regular season the end all be all.

Yeah id be more interested in watching on TV but dropping games would soar ticket prices in most markets.

I think it'll be good. The play in games have all been surprisingly pretty good, b/c these guys are competitors and have something to play for beyond a good seed.
