Dopesick (Hulu) is well done. Reminds me some of Chernobyl. I know embarrassingly little about the opioid epidemic and this show has really fueled my interest.

Read "Dreamland" by Sam Quinones. You'll tear through it.

I came to it through his guest spot on WTF. Did not ruin it at all for me.

Only Murders in the Building was great. The surprise of the year for me in TV.

I enjoyed watching Selena Gomez swear a lot.

Think this girl has star potential. She's gonna be a big thing IMO.

This is someone that respects/likes some of her music, was kinda into her years ago...but my wife has that show on occasionally. Is her very monotone acting job on purpose? I haven't paid enough attention to the show but the clips I saw my feel was, "her acting has fallen off from child acting + her younger roles" - but maybe it's all intentional, I don't watch enough.

Succession got off to a good start

I'm on season two of a rewatch (though I did watch ep one of season 3). I liked it the first time. I love it now.

Took me a minute to get back into the rhythm and cadence of that show, it's like a roller coaster ride. I've never equally loved and hated a show's characters as much as Succession. They are constantly jockeying for survival. The family/show is bananas.

I knew relatively nothing about it going in. No novels, no previous movies or miniseries. I think it helped with my enjoyment because I wasn't constantly thinking about what was in or out of this version.

The problem is the back half of the book is a massive shift in story. I think adapting the portion they did for part 1 was relatively easy. The rest of the book makes some out there choices lol

I’m going to have to watch Dune again. I knew relatively little about it coming in, and while it seemed like a good movie, it also felt like a really dragged out, incomplete story. I realize they’re planning on a sequel, but something about it just felt a little flat. I’m sure I’m in the minority

They left out quite a good chunk of the politics and political espionage that is in the book. That portion makes it easier to follow, but it would’ve made the movie an hour longer. Ideally part one would have been closer to 4 hours, but I understand them wanting it to be a more functioning movie in terms of budget/profits.

A big omission from the book

in the book the Baron attempts to make the Duke believe that lady Jessica is the traitor. The Baron knows this can’t be true, but the only person he tells is Paul, because he doesn’t want word to get back to the Baron that he is on to his ploy. When everything goes to hell, Duncan, Thufir (a much bigger character in the book) and the other survivors all believe lady Jessica was the traitor that brought forth the collapse. In fact, Thufir is so well regarded that the Baron enlists him to replace Piter (who was barely even in the movie) as his mentat. This leads to a massive chain of events in the book.

It’s an awesome depiction of political espionage as the two sides try to feed each other false information before the fall of House Atreides.

Just curious, did you watch it in the theater or at home? I watched it at home, and it afforded a couple breaks. That definitely helped my viewing experience.

Go back and watch the original movie. You'll really be confused. That's just how that thing rolls.

All that said, I did enjoy the original and look forward to seeing the new one.

I watched it in a theater, but usually have no issues sitting through even longer movies in that setting, so I'm not sure what the issue was, but basically after

Paul and Jessica crash land

it kind of ran out of steam for me. Maybe I won't have that issue whenever I rewatch it. The production design and cinematography are excellent, though. It's a solid movie and I'd definitely see the next one.
