While his agent is calling this a max extension, it's actually isn't, and can only get close through incentives.

The incentives no longer mess up our cap, because we won't be hardcapped.

Yes and no. I'm thinking he's coming away with what another team could pay him in free agency (actually a bit more depending on the incentives).

That said, I concur. Some team would have paid him this offseason, the question is would it have been a team he'd prefer over Milwaukee.

Big relief. The incentives offer some protection against this being a huge overpay because it mitigates the Bucks' risk. Most importantly, he didn't hold out until summer to hold the Bucks hostage for a "Bird Rights" max. Some other team would have paid him this anyway, so it's good that he chose the Bucks. And like someone said, it technically is a discount because it's not a true max deal; he probably has to hit nearly all the incentives to make what he would have gotten in the open market.

Brook has to go to make this work and continue building a viable supporting cast around the Big 3 each year. Please god let him turn back the clock for a few months and let the Bucks be smart enough to trade him if and when they have the chance instead of looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Jrue strikes me as the type of player who's game will age well. Kind of like Kyle Lowry.
