And connecting the dots it 100% tracks (Atkinson was a Pop coaching tree guy, same as Bud). So as much deserved blame that Horst should get for the current roster construction, he'd at least be batting 2-for-2 on coaching hires if meddling ownership just let the GM do his job.

You mean if Giannis wasn't given control over the coaching hire?

*If panicky ownership didn't base the entire coaching hire process on what they thought was Giannis demanding an ex-player be the coach rather than that just being his preference when they consulted him*, sure.

Didn’t Horst want Atkinson and got overruled?

That's my impression. Horst's drafting and trading away all future draft capital are on him but I have little doubt that firing Bud, hiring Griff or hiring Doc were not his decisions.

Pretty stupid to not allow the dude that built a roster pick the coach to lead them.

Is there a link to verified info that Horst wanted Atkinson? Or is it just internet speculation? It could be legit and I missed it.

I think I read it in The Athletic at one point, but the only one I can find right now is the Kevin O'Connor piece.

Who will run the Milwaukee Bucks?
Two weeks ago, Marc Stein reported that the Detroit Pistons have interest in hiring Bucks general manager Jon Horst to lead their basketball operations. Stein’s scoop didn’t get much traction. The playoffs had yet to begin, and the report didn’t exactly predict that anything will happen. But league sources tell me there’s a real possibility that Horst will take the gig in Detroit.

Now, why would Horst leave the Bucks for the league’s worst team? He is a Michigan native who got his start working in the NBA as a front office assistant with the Pistons. In his 16 years with the Bucks, he’s risen up the ranks, but his power has dwindled in recent years. Giannis Antetokounmpo was more or less able to choose Adrian Griffin to be the Bucks head coach last summer, even though Horst wanted Nick Nurse. Then ownership chose Doc Rivers, though Horst wanted Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson. And after years of bolstering the roster around Giannis, the Bucks now have the second-oldest team in the league, have suffered major injuries in three straight postseasons, and don’t have the rights to any of their firsts until 2031. This confluence of circumstances might make the prospect of a fresh, malleable start appealing.

All owners sign off on major moves but that's depressing. And Giannis is clueless with personnel/coaching.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

We deserve everything coming our way if this is true. Generational talent whose prime may be wasted by complete and utter incompetence at an organizational level.

It can be enjoyable to poke fun at all the "Heat Culture" stuff, but there's the old story about Lebron going to Riley basically asking him to fire Spoelstra and being told to never ask him to replace a coach again. If the Bucks stuff is true, it's obviously an indictment of Giannis but culture starts at the top.

KOC is a hack, but that is how I heard the coaching stuff went down as well. Except that Giannis also wanted Bud out.

Stein was also reporting that summer that Griffin was Giannis's guy, and that Giannis specifically said no to Nurse.

Nobody has ever accused Giannis of being smart when it comes to this stuff...

I'm still not sure Griffin was a bad pick. I have zero inside info but I think his defensive strategy was a way of trying to prove to management that Lopez needed to go.

If Griff didn't think Lopez needed to be here, they wouldn't have resigned him the same offseason Griff was hired.

Griff was probably a good assistant, and he might have become a good head coach for a young, developing team. But the Bucks situation was a bad one for him. Stotts and him having a huge fallout before the season. Having to come up with a new defensive scheme on the fly after trading Jrue for Dame. And doing that with sky high expectations.

This is normally a game I would go to. Saturday night against a good team. But after the home opener debacle and subsequent games.....nope.

How are the Bucks a 1.5 point favorite tonight? I don't get it.

This is true, yet it’s also true Riley was never able to get LeBron to sign an extension.

I have no idea what to think right now. Feel like may win, but wouldn’t be shocked if Cleveland ran us out of the gym. Next 4 are Cavs, at Cavs, Jazz, Celtics. Could get more ugly. Really need to get tonight.
