Another good one which I'd also recommend.

There have also been a lot of good documentaries this year. I saw one entitled Protagonist which was very Errol Morris like (Fast, Cheap and Out of Control, Fog of War etc guy).

It was mostly interviews with 4 different people: a runt kid who got picked on and turned to a martial arts obsession after seeing an episode of Kung Fu, a German who later became an infamous leftist terrorist, a homo who was a Christian preacher who believed his gay desires were a test from god, and a guy abused as a child who later attacked his father and became a famous bank robber thinking he was Nietzsche's uber-mensch incarnate. On the surface, not a lot in common there... but there are scenes between the interviews are interspersed with puppets acting scenes from Greek tragedies that give a framework to weave the storys together. Very good documentary.

Other good docs: King of Kong, Crazy Love, Desperate Man Blues.. the last one is about Joe Bussard who ran the Fonotone record label and preserved massive amounts of blues/hillbilly/jazz/country etc music that would have been lost by collecting 78's. He's an amusing character who says things like "Ah 1933, right around the end of Jazz" and refers to the "cancer of rock." I'm a huge fan of late 20's/early 30's music so I loved it.

I've inevitably forgotten many. [Mandatory Half-Nelson plug]. ElDude, I need some movie recommendations. I'm counting on you.

Well Mike, i changed my Netflix to the one at a time deal. I was in the middle plan for quite awhile, but to often movies would sit on my table for 3-7 days. Plus, i've been letting my daughter pick out movies she's wanted lately so i haven't seen many movies the last few months. A few off the top of my head non- huge budget/big hype movies i got and liked to varying degrees

The Descent---Pretty good thriller about a group of girls who get stuck/lost in a cave they were exploring. Certainly not an award quality movie, but i'd recommend it to anyone as being rental worthy.

The Proposition---I'm generally not a fan of to many westerns, but this also was a pretty good movie IMO. Then again, i let my buddy watch it after i did and he thought it was boring. It for sure seems a taste type of movie, i could see many liking it very much and many others hating it.

Disturbia---My kid wanted to see this and we watched it a few days ago, pretty decent for a teenager with a mad killer around type of movie. I expected it to suck badly, but it kept my interest.

I've seen some of the bigger name movies from the last year/year plus, but i'm guessing you've seen the ones i have. There has to be others i'm forgetting, but i have a bad foot and i munched down to many oxycodones, my brain is in slow motion speed right now.

I mentioned that one the last time we had a movie thread. Great film IMO.

I thought AD was as overrated a show as we've seen. I watched the first season and don't ever remember a chuckle. Maybe not my kind of humor I guess.

So smart, intellectual humor isn't up your alley? No offense, but that's what the show is

I have David Cross with a passion. The most annoying actor/comedian I've come across (possibly second to Jim Gaffigan). I also quickly got sick of Will Arnett's character. Jason Bateman was just sort of there and offered nothing.

I really liked Portia de Rossi's character, though.

I don't understand why everyone thinks that shark scene is funny.

wow, I thought that was one of the better movies I've seen. Great story, great artistic vision from the director, and that bad guy was great too.

I also really loved no country for old men, and juno was pretty good too.

Oye vey. But if I remember correctly, wasn't The OC one of your favorite shows...ever?

I loved the OC, not gonna lie. But I never called it a comedy. I liked it because of the trashy, cheesy plotlines and ridiculously gorgeous women.

I as well was very dissapointed with Pan's. I was expecting a fantasy movie and that's not what I got. Not that it was bad, I just think they way it was marketed was very misleading.

I am excited about del Toro's recent presentation, The Orphanage. Anyone see that yet?

I, too, found Arrested Development way too dry/droll for my tastes, but you may be cheating yourself if you base your opinion of David Cross solely on AD or just his standup schtik. Some of his work on HBO's Mr. Show was the funniest sketch comedy I've seen since Monty Python. Here are two great Cross bits from Mr. Show:
