The only way I would recommend bands is if you absolutely don't have a place for a pull up bar. It's not nearly the same. And I would never use them in place of weights.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Pretty much the worst part about my apartment... The door frames are all crazy old school style and too wide to fit the pull-up bars that hang on the doors. :(

If you absolutely can't get a bar then get bands. Get the heaviest ones they have, blue, black. You'll definitely feel it if you use those. Not as good as a bar but you'll still work the back and arms pretty well. Don't bother with the lighter bands, you barely feel it. A friend of mine got the bands and then got a door attachment (I think on Ebay for a couple of bucks, it's just a little black thing with a loop, you put the band through it and then it goes on top of your door, you shut the door and it secures it) and she said it works pretty well.

Don't post links to buy illegal items. I don't want this to turn into a debate about doing such things but if you wish to do so find a link elsewhere, don't post it here. Thank you MD

Sorry about that. I found the same link in the earlier pages of this thread, so I thought putting it out there wouldn't be an issue.

Also, for people asking about Insanity...

After doing it for about a week and a half, I experienced weakness in my knees. Just recently I had severe knee pain as well.

I wouldn't recommend doing it as I've heard other people have had the same problems. That's just too much plyo for a lot of peoples bodies to handle.

For those who have been doing P90X for awhile:

What happens when you are finished with the 90 days? Start over again? Change the order? I'm loving it so far and would like to make the workout a life-long daily habit.

You have several options when you finish the 90 days. You can do it again but this time your starting point is much higher than it was the first time. You are lifting more weight, doing the cardio harder and faster. So you can do it again. Other options:

P90X+. It's some extra workouts that you mix in with the original P90X. There are a couple of new cardio, a couple of new strength and a new ab workout.

Tony's One on One. For about the last 3 years Tony has been coming out with a new workout each month. It's just Tony and the camera guy at Tony's house. Some are very very good. I have Just Arms, Medicine Ball Core Cardio, Diamond Delts and a few others. They run $20 each. I use these and mix them in with the other P90X workouts.

I've done all of the above. After round 1 I did round 2, only more intense because my starting point was higher. Then I added P90X+ for another round of 90. Then I got some of the One on One workouts and have been mixing those in every since.

Also, P90X2 is coming out this fall.

Sorry to again ask a possible repeat question...

What do you guys do to replace the "recovery shake" they try to sell? I am reading 4:1 carbs:protein. Maybe just a protein shake and a bunch of apple juice, I've read online?

Do they try to sell Accelerade? If not, that's what my dad drank. It has the 4:1 ratio and you can buy it from any GNC I believe.

I do Greek yogurt + banana + chocolate milk (blended with ice). Recommended to me by a marathon runner.

Well I think the whole point of a recovery drink is the carbs, which a whey shake lacks

There is some debate on it but usually a 4:1 carb/protein ratio is what you want. I use the P90X recovery formula. It tastes good (orange), has the right ratio and some other stuff I like. But it's pricey, there are certainly cheaper alternatives

Just "brought it" for the first time. Arms/Shoulders/Back routine 1. The pushups murdered me at the end.

Is the next one worse...or are you just suggesting that I'll be ridiculously sore?

I've done a few workouts like this. My HS offseason workout was on par with boot camp. I've also done "cardio boot camp" so I at least have done this enough to remind myself to just be stupid and hit it again the next day.
