Watching some videos, he reminds me a lot of Luc Richard M'Bah a Moute defensively, and I thought Luc was one of the best defensive players in the league when he was with the Bucks. When MarJon moves his feet and gets his body in position to cut a guy off, he doesn't just slow the guy down, he stops him cold because of his lower body strength. You add in the long arms and you have someone who can potentially smother people off the dribble just like Luc used to do.
I was surprised he didn't really have a defensive rep until this year because of how much he jumped out to me, but it makes sense when you watch the video with coach Hart. Until his stint in the G-League last year, MarJon played like a superstar type player on every team he was on. With the Ignite, Hart said they ran no plays for him and that he focused on defense and playing off the ball and running the break.
His shooting form doesn't look bad to me, so if he can even become a somewhat respectable three point shooter he could have value as a rookie if the defense translates. I really like the pick in the 20's.
