If Nwora had Bates' raw talent, I think I would've been a lot higher on him as a prospect. As is, Bates is gonna be the ultimate test to the question of "how much can talent cover up poor basketball IQ?".

A-yo, this is catnip for the "Giannis has low BBIQ" crowd.
Have at it, scalawags.

I like his ball handling and his shot release a lot more than Nwora's, but good lord does he pound the air out of the ball. With Nwora, you knew if you passed him the ball, you wouldn't get it back. It might be the same with Bates but he might first hold it for 5 seconds and dribble it for 10-15 more.

I've also explored options to move back to the late 20's or 30's, but it involves the blood of virgins and what-not, so I'm hesitant.

Jaime Jaquez fans out there? I don't watch college basketball but just watching a highlight video of the guy and seems to have a lot of skills and shooting we could use.

Love him. He’s a 6’7” Joker. Somebody is going to grab him around pick #20. NBA is going to give him more room to operate and he will destroy with his midrange game and awesome footwork.

I like Jacquez, worried that his offensive game won’t translate well to the pros but he’s a very smart player and should be a rotation player right away.

I think he will have more space in the nba to run a midrange game and he has a Sabonis like post up game that he can punish smaller player with when they guard him. Bet his 3pt % is better because he will get wide open looks as defenders play off of him. He was pretty much the go to guy at the end of the shot clock at ucla when nothing was working and he still shot 62% at the rim, 71% on putbacks, and 40% on 2pt jumpers. The only way he struggles is if a team tries to make him into something he is not like OKC did with Sabonis. He’s got that Ingles, Sabonis, Harden, Joker type old man offensive game with a relentless motor. I think his floor is TJ Warren lite.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread
Yeah, I think he will be effective, I just don’t know (especially in his rookie season) if a team would run a lot of post-ups or midrange touches for him (kind of felt the same about EJ Liddell last year). But on the other hand, he seems like a player who can adapt to whatever role his team needs him to play.

I think his offensive game translates far better than Liddell’s. Liddell’s offensive game in college almost certainly won’t work in the pros. It just requires faith that he’s skilled enough to learn to play a different way in the pros.
Big fan of Jaquez personally; I think his game will translate fairly well. I believe he was top 20 on my big board

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread
So if the Bucks are able to find a way into the first round or early second, what are some names that I should pay attention to?

The two that were mentioned earlier, Kobe Brown and Jaime Jaquez, both feel like pretty solid picks for a team desperate for ready to play guys.
Other guys I’d love that are currently projected late 1st/early 2nd:
Brandin Podziemski
Leonard Miller
Brice Sensabaugh
Sidy Cissoko

Seem to have a draft dream in the lead up every year. Last night I dreamt we moved up to 7 and drafted Anthony Black. No idea how we moved up that high.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft Thread
I’ve been watching more video’s of emunney’s guy, Andre Jackson, and let me say that I like the way he dunks.
That doesn’t matter much to the basketball game, but it matters to me.
I like the type of player who dunks where you could photoshop a player in front of them, and the dunk still looks believable. That’s Andre. He throws them straight back down to earth like the gods were throwing apples at Newton.
I like him.
