Go with another high upside lottery ticket.

Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD - Round 2 Thursday 3:00 pm CDT - Spoilers OK
Based on Horst saying there's a lot of action surrounding our 2nd rd pick, I'm assuming it'll be traded, especially given, for a contender, our glut of youth, much of it not high quality &/or not ready.
But if they keep it, and do another high upside swing, SG/SF Niko Djurisic would fit the ball. He'd also fit the emphasis on players who showed out in the combine scrimmages.
I thought I was on an island here. Now that the Bucks swung for the fences w/ their 1st rounder, if the Bucks keep the pick, Hall would fit the bill of a win now big. He might be the best big left on the board & I agree could be an asset as a small ball 5.

With a pick as high as 33, no reason a competent gm can’t trade 33 and a future second for a lotto protected future first. Screw future seconds as the target in a 33 trade.

I just think Horst lucked into the job and is mostly unqualified, any random RGMer prob does the same or better

To me being a great athlete doesn’t equate to high upside.

A.J. Johnson will be the ultimate test of stats and film versus projection this season. If you have an undraftable grade on Johnson, I understand it. The stats are rough. He played in a league that he wasn’t ready for. The tape isn’t great, although I think there is something positive to take away on his defensive growth throughout the season. Offensively, he struggled. He wasn’t efficient and looked extremely sped up throughout the year. But much like with G.G. Jackson last season, should you rely on the tape when it’s abundantly clear Johnson moved up levels too quickly and wasn’t ready to play in a physical league when he was under 170 pounds? Athletically, there are flashes of upside in terms of his ability to generate paint touches and his ability to separate backwards that are serious. In this draft, where everyone is looking for any remote chance of upside, I wonder if Johnson represents a marginal inefficiency in the same way Jackson did last season. Or, maybe I’m overcompensating for being low on Jackson last season by ranking Johnson highly as my upside bet in this class. I’d take a flier on him in the top 40 at this point if I had a strong, developmentally conscious organization that I believed would be able to get his frame up to speed within the next two years. There is a legitimate high-upside offensive starter here with defensive tools. But it’s going to take time and a lot of work by whatever organization ends up with him.

In conjunction w/ height/length, ball-handling, moves, instincts, competitiveness, age, etc.; it most surely does.
Johnson was indeed our first swing. The 2nd would be the next pick, hypothetically.

Eh. I think he's draftable for sure, but I think he offers a lot of the athleticism concerns of the plodding C's without the size. If we were to go that sort of route, I'd prefer Quinten Post, who's like 7'1" and one of the best shooters in the class.

He's not a plodder though. That's the thing. He's comparable to Brandon Bass or David Lee. Explosive, power guys. That may be more useful going in a straight line, than lateral, but plodder's unfair. And like the No Ceilings scouting report said, he showed some promise on switches & screen roll d this yr, if that's the concern. He previously had a knee injury.

If you'd rather call it something else, sure. I think it's still the same point though; don't think he's athletic or big enough to prefer him over a guy like Post. I think they check the same sort of boxes and Post does it significantly better.

I think it's going to be Bona if we keep it.

Take Bona because jokes.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.
Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

It's just incredibly frustrating to see a team like Phoenix trade back for more draft assets, while still getting their guy (Dunn) that fits perfectly with their core offensive trio. You know Bud is gonna turn him into a solid rotation guy on Day 1 just like he did with Donte. This is why having a coherent system and good coaching matters. The difference between having a distinct vision and roster construction philosophy, and a GM who's constantly taking fliers on tools-y guys and hoping they just kinda develop into great players down in the G-league.

I thought one of the knocks on Bud was that he didn't play rookies.
