To quote Bette Davis: You should never say bad things about the dead, only good. Hulk Hogan is dead. Good.

There's a great doc on Andre, I believe it was on ESPN. Maybe a 30 for 30 but it was definitely on ESPN. Very interesting guy. There's a good one on Ric Flair too. But I highly recommend Dark Side of The Ring. My ex really enjoyed it even though she hates wrestling. Most of them are tragic. Chris Benoit, Owen Hart, Bruiser Brody murder, the Von Erichs, etc..
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I think its reasonable to reflect on the presence someone had in my/our lives, while also never having liked them, or in this case knowing they were a huge jackass. Hulk dying feels significant, to a kid of the 80s/90s. But I don’t think a ton of us liked him.
Exactly. Couldn't stand the guy personally. I was never much of a wrestling fan but I went to his first appearance at a sold out Bradley Center. It was a tag team with Hulk and Macho Man against Big Boss Man and someone else I can't remember. It was shown live on NBC. Miss Elizabeth gets "injured", Hulk tends to her, which pisses off Macho man, they go at it and that started a beef between them that carried on for awhile. It was louder than any Bucks game I ever went to at the BC.
Funny story but you can hear a guy very clearly on the broadcast yell "You're a good man Hogan!" as he was carrying Miss Elizabeth down the tunnel. It was my friend's dad lol.

****, I didn't know that was at the Bradley Center. That fight between Macho and Hogan was epic.

There is also a great story about an event at the time at old Miller Park. Another promotion (I think WCW) was having a pay per view at the Mecca, so WWF made their stars wrestle the same night to try to attract all the fans. I’ve forgotten the details. But it was all the stars, not even televised, just trying to spite a rival.

The Andre the Giant doc is on Max. Ric Flair doc was a 30 for 30 and is on Netflix.

Wow, some pretty gross commentary in this thread. Sad.

He was polarizing to be sure. As long as we don't get into the specifics here it's fine.

Born again Christian is polarizing? You’d think he was on the Epstein list to warrant this kind of commentary, but maybe he was and I just didn’t hear about it

There's way more to him than that. And if you want to talk specifics, do it elsewhere not here. Thanks!

Ok, sounds like the complaints are about the off limit topics then. Noted and consider it done from my end.

I deleted a couple of posts. Talk about his wrestling stuff if you want. All the other stuff no. It's that simple. Move on. Thanks.

Just go google **** and let it go on this thread. It would take 30 seconds. Thx. The Hulk thread on the General Board even had to be locked because it got so toxic. So just end it now on our board.

Re: OT: General Off Topic Thread [No Politics, Race, Religion, etc.]
I have not watched wrasslin in probably 25 years, but when I was a kid(more than 25 years ago) I vividly remember being on the playground and emulating Hulk, Andre, Hacksaw Jim Dugan and probably a load of other wrestlers. Good times. I think I figured out WWF was scripted about the same time as I figured out Santa wasn’t real. Hard times.

Re: OT: General Off Topic Thread [No Politics, Race, Religion, etc.]
Only nostalgic Hulk thoughts:
- I went to a house show at the Rosemont Horizon (Chi) in probably 1988. Hulk beat Big John Stud in a snoozey formulaic match. The music came on, he posed, the arena went nuts. I’ve been to epic concerts, masterful poetry readings, tear inducing eulogies, etc. As lowbrow as pro wrestling is.. that guy could hold a crowd in the palm of his hand
- In “No Holds Barred” Hulk plays a wrestler that is 99.99% based on him, and operates a charity called “sports for kids.” That always cracks me up. Come on, writing team, do better
- Hulk was the most basic vanilla main card wrestler in the whole WWF which was odd, fans loved him so much, but it was just the formula that worked, he could actually perform way more. There is video of him working in Japan where he is actually really agile and creative and innovative
- Is Hulk the greatest bald hero of all time? I say yes
- In the 80s things were simple, you were either good or bad, and Hulk figured that out and did “good” better than anyone
- in the 90s, America wanted more complex protagonists, its the whole Tony Soprano thing. And Hulk figured that out, became a villain, and enjoyed yet another cultural run as a character everyone loved to watch and talk about. The guy was incredibly savvy in knowing how to engage mass crowds
- If you are between the ages of 40-50, you have absolutely looked in the mirror and tried to rip a tshirt off and done the Hulk poses
- If you are in that age range, there is a part of you sad at today’s news

Wrestlers refer to themselves as babyfaces (good guys) and heels (bad guys). Most of them loved being heels. Hulk was a fun heel.
Dark Side of the Ring has a great episode on the rise and fall of WCW on TBS. He's a part of that.
