George Hill is still a good basketball player who will help us win games. Jason Smith isn't Thon at least.
They'll be replacing 20+ minutes a game from two guys (Delly and Henson) who were a combined -27.2 on/off net rating.
Odds are those guys are helping us.

I doubt it but I you probably understand the game better than me so maybe that's the case.

You don't think a smart combo guard who is a 40% shooter from three helps this team?
I mean maybe we aren't getting Indy George Hill at this stage in his career but he is a surefire contributor.

They won't, it's just a salary dump. Paying for past mistakes with draft picks.
You know I said that already right?

Hill gives you the flexibility to trade Brogdon. At least for this season. A Brogdon/Middleton package can now go on the market if they so desired to do so.
Or Bledsoe / Middleton.
Or Hill / Brogdon at the deadline.
Hill maximizes flexibility is part of what is so enticing about this trade.

I'm looking forward to hearing from Lowe or Madden or someone on the future cap consequences from this trade. Will this make us players for the top tier free agents?
Could we go after Kemba or Klay and then resign some of our own guys and get a big 4?

Yeah, exactly.
What type of role do you think he finds with us is really the question. Is he a 20 mpg guy for us taking that PC/DDV role?

Hill is more in the mold of Brogdon. It would still be a tank move to trade Bledsoe for a non point guard.

Hill also has experience with Bud from their San Antonio days (per ESPN commentators last night).
He is trying to prove himself in a contract year as well.
Not impossible we see a George Hill renaissance of sorts.
He's got a serious opportunity here to make his mark on a young team -- especially come playoff time.

I don't like his defense last couple of years, he got bounced around the league a little bit and he's on the wrong side of thirty so my gut feel is that he's kinda given up a little bit. And I dont' see Bledsoe giving up any of his 30 mins and Brogdon plays some PG too so not sure how much room there is for a back up PG to contribute actual wins.

Gery had reported that Delly to the Cavs was possible.
This is a win for him.

This is a win for him.
It’s no secret the Bucks are looking to trade veteran reserve guard Matthew Dellavedova who is a former Cavaliers fan favorite. Dellavedova began his NBA career with the Cavs in 2013 and spent three seasons with them before being dealt to Milwaukee in the summer of 2016 for Albert Miralles and $200,000.
If the Cavs were to take on Dellavedova, they would likely request a draft pick or young player as well, especially considering Dellavedova will be paid $9.6 million this season and $9.6 million next season.

Re: Delly, Henson, 1st/2nd and Rodzilla for Hill/Dekker - Dekker to Wiz For Smith/Second POLL ADDED
I think he steps into every non Bledsoe point guard minute and then depending on matchup or who is playing well sneaks minutes elsewhere. He takes all of the minutes Delly saw, then he steps into the second team minutes where Brogdon has seen a bunch of rather ugly minutes trying to play the point. After that it's pretty much whoever is playing well will get backup two guard minutes and I'd assume we continue to see a lot of three guard sets.Chapter29 wrote:Baddy Chuck wrote:Pachinko_ wrote:I doubt it but I you probably understand the game better than me so maybe that's the case.

I just don't know. Hill looked so done last year with Cleveland. I get it that his shooting percentages are still good. I also get it that he WILL have some good games with us. But we need a bench player we can rely on night in and night out. Maybe Suki can give him some vitamins or something.

Thank you.
Smith can't be worse than Thon and Hill is a good backup

Hill interests me more so for his contract. That is an extremely valuable trade chip if they decide to play it.

So Gery still has enough connects to accurately predict Delly to the Cavs.
Maybe there is something to his Lillard report as well:
Acquiring Hill and Smith gives us a ton more flexibility particularly if we would be dealing with more of a win now team with cap challenges like the Blazers.
As to the rumor itself, from Portland's perspective -- maybe they aren't excited about giving another max deal to Lillard after he hits 30 (he's 28 now).
Middleton will be 27 or 28 when he signs this summer. A long term deal for him this offseason would be a much lower ceiling on the court but also lower risk since it'd end before he closes in on his mid-30's.
And that's all aside from whether there is anything to the Lebron-Lillard talk.
Maybe there is something to his Lillard report as well:
From what I've been told the past couple of days, Portland is putting out feelers for what they could get for him because they don't want to keep paying the money they have to for him going forward, and then on top of that I think he is an unrestricted free agent in like two years.

George Hill's career shooting %'s are so good. I just feel like we really need some reliable shooters to nail open threes, especially after the last few weeks... I understand the concern about eating into Brogdon and Bledsoe's minutes, but I think Bud might look at some 3 guard lineups with these guys. They all have huge Wingspans too at:
Bledsoe 6"7.5
Hill 6"9
Brogdon 6"10.5
With Khris / Giannis / Ersan / Brook etc at the 4/5 that could be some really fun / fast lineups with a ton of shooting.
Gives us another look at least and a bit of cover if Bledsoe or Brogdon go down for a stretch.
Really like the trade, kudos to Horst. Eases our position in the off-season salary wise, gives us more options at the trade table and makes us better this season.

This trade really happened?!? Does the swap out of Deckker for Smith avail a Max slot this offseason?

Bucks could consider offering to swap George Hill for Evan Turner if that would close a Lillard deal.
Or we could combine Hill with other players before the deadline if we are abjectly opposed to taking on Turner.
Either way Hill is a serious asset.
If he can be a solid rotation player that makes it way easier for us to offer Bledsoe or Brogdon in deals too.

I’m with the “wait and see what we do with the space and subsequent deals” group on this one. We’re adding two more average at best players to an suddenly crowded rotation. Hopefully we have something big planned for the deadline.
