It's telling that in a year where Brogdon makes a pretty substantial volume jump his own team wants to see what they can get for him.

Think it has zero to do with Brogdon, and much more to do with the fact the Pacers are rudderless right now as to a long-term plan. They need to blow it up and tank.
And the Pacers are seeing the big premium that contenders have paid in the trade market over the past year (cough, Jrue).
They'll get more for Brogdon than we did (pick #24 and two 2nds).

It is a microcosm of John Hammond's drafting career. Blow the really obvious selection at #10 by taking Thon over Sabonis. Then balance it out by finding an older/overachieving guy like Brogdon in the second round.

I don't think it has zero to do with Brogdon at all. His impact doesn't align with what his volume numbers suggest it should be. The same goes for Sabonis. As far as "They'll get more for Brogdon than we did," I don't see how that's relevant to the discussion. He's under contract for two more years. It's a pretty big difference.

Re: ATL - 2021 Second Half
Curious what a 'real deal' for Brogdon would entail.
I suspect Indiana would get more for him than what they gave up. But it also could be them giving up on his potential likely due to health related concerns.
Cashing out or just getting out of that contract is a reasonable decision considering how far that team is away from doing anything, and if Brogdon has a serious injury, his trade value could collapse.

Multiple teams are saying the Indiana Pacers are listening to pitches on Malcolm Brogdon and are monitoring Domantas Sabonis as well. On Brogdon, the belief is the Pacers feel Caris LeVert can man the point guard adequately enough should they get a real deal for Brogdon, who’s in the second year of a four-year, $85 million contract.

Our deal put him under contract for four years. Depending on how you look at things, taking him for only 2.3 years now would be a better situation given his injuries though I suppose.
That said, the guy is a damn good player. And at $20mm per, he's paid appropriately. I just can't let the fact Indy is listening to offers imply that somehow he's a disappointment. The real issue is Indy has run the course with their core. They have to blow it up.

Draymond calling himself the greatest defender of all time is like if Kyrie said he was the greatest offensive player of all time. It's not that he's not good, it's just that it's ridiculous and the guys actually in that conversation blow him away.

Hopefully Brogdon doesn't land anywhere he can hurt us. Strong potential for that.

Well I don't agree at all. I think it implies exactly that. Malcolm Brogdon wanted a larger role. He got it. In that role, he is not enough, and that's why they're open to other options. If they thought he was enough, they'd be looking to tweak their roster elsewhere. I don't know how you can "run the course with your core" when Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis are both 24 years old, Caris Levert has missed 24 games, and a key piece in Warren has missed 38. Context matters. They won 48 and 45 games in each of the past two seasons, one of which, included minimal contributions from Oladipo who's slot in the lineup is now occupied by Levert. You "have to blow it up" when you've reached a breaking point, a doomsday scenario. That's not at all where Indiana is right now and I don't expect either to be moved. I do, however, think the writing is on the wall there for both of those guys.

In 2 years the Raps went from "We're signing Giannis in 2021 because he loves Masai!!" to
Kawhi Leaves
Gasol Leaves
Ibaka Leaves
Dumpster Fire

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

If Indy wants to take the next step, they absolutely need to blow it up. There is zero superstar potential on that roster, and the front office can see it. And being a small market, they are carrying a $125mm payroll this year, with likely much lower revenues coming in the door.

All true.
At the same time, I'd take their 2019 title for us.

Brogdon might be on the market? Dammit, we held on to DJ Wilson for so long...curse our timing!

Did Masai sign his extension yet? He might be next.
... wouldn't mind him as POBO to oversee Horst and Co.

Utah has zero superstar potential, has the best record in the league, zero glaring holes on their roster, and is certainly a contender. Miami punched us and our superstar in our mouth last season without one and made the finals. Toronto had zero superstar potential on their roster until they didn't and won a championship. Indiana is in a position to possibly win a bunch of games for the forseeable future and make a move when something becomes available. Blowing it up is not a necessity.
As far as lower revenues, I don't think there's this tremendous worry about lower revenues on the season with rumors of the next TV deal tripling the last one.

I don't really get this. They're finding the next Mitchell in the teens away from competing. Like if they decided to blow it up fine but they could continue competing for the 8th seeds while gradually improving the talent level.
