Yeah, reading some of these trade ideas with the Kings is making my head hurt. We're not trading core pieces of a championship team period, let alone for the any of the **** King's **** players.

MKE: Schröder, Len, Harkless
SAC: Grant, DiVincenzo, Hood
DET: Bagley, Mitchell, Nwora
BOS: Hill, Ojeleye, CHI '22 2nd (via SAC), ATL '22 2nd (via SAC)

This solves a lot of problems for the Bucks. Schröder provides more of a scoring pop off the bench, Harkless adds another very good wing defender to throw onto the Durants of the world, and Len does his best Lopez impression until Lopez is healthy.

Kings go all in. Fox/Hali/Barnes/Grant/Holmes with DDV and Buddy off the bench.

Pistons cash in on Grant with several prospects.

Celtics gain a couple of picks for a player not in their future plans in Schröder, Hill is a steady hand in the meantime.

Holiday / Schröder
Allen / Connaughton
Middleton / Harkless / Matthews
Giannis / Portis
Lopez / Len

I think I'd pass, though it is quality for the other teams involved. Schroder isn't really a PG, and is an inefficient chucker. His only good year was playing SG for OKC. Nwora can provide just as much bench scoring. HarkIess doesn't shoot the 3 well enough.
I don't want to move these 3 for 3 guys who won't be here next year.

Too much upheavel to the roster, I'd focus on just getting the right forward.

The Kings have always had an interest in Donte so he's likely the one on the chopping block if we are gonna trade with the Kings.

I don't see how Brook is a core piece anymore with Bobby and his injury and advanced age. Bobby is definitely more of a core piece to me than Brook. Neither skill set is easy to get and especially in the regular season rim protection is king (as you can see with Utah and this year's Cavs) but when teams start to game plan in the post season Brook's impact diminishes. He's definitely tradeable as long as we get someone really good back.

Also I don't think Middleton is a core piece as much as he's portrayed to be. Yes he's an all-star level player with great chemistry with Giannis and realistically with cost of acquisition there probably isn't a trade out there that makes us better.
But there are plenty of players that could fill in his role around the league. Assuming we had a different source to absorb his tertiary playmaking I wouldn't even be surprised if a worse offensive but better defensive player like let's say Mikal Bridges wouldn't actually improve us. Right now Middleton is our closer but it looks like Giannis is getting there too.

Jrue to me is core in that sense because his skillset is unique. There's no replacing him. If you trade him it's because you go another direction.

Not a single player in the league has an 9 year history of playing with Giannis like Middleton.

He was ELITE in the finals last year and you guys want to dump him for Kings trash?

Trading Middleton opens the door for Giannis to think about leaving unless you are bringing back Curry or Durant.

I'll say it: I think Haliburton surpasses Middleton by the end of next season. The trade is never going to happen (and for good reasons), but Haliburton is hardly trash.

Are we still like 15-2 or something when all Jrue, Midds and Giannis play? If so, just try to keep everyone fresh and turn it on during the playoffs. And let's hope we are able to add a piece from the buy outs.

Agree 100% with all of this. Will never happen but Haliburton is on Middleton's heels.

Of all the Middleton trades I've seen over the years, Barnes/Haliburton may be the best one. This team needs to find a way to get younger, which is very difficult in their situation obviously.

I still wouldn't do it, but it's not as bad as all of the rest, that I recall anyway.

Just like how I willed PJ Tucker into existence last season (you're welcome), I'm willing Naz Reid into existence now. Make it happen Horst.

I agree with both. Haliburton will eventually be a fringe All Star. Acquiring him would also ease the PG transition when Jrue his the wall, though that's still years away.

I just think in this deal, the Kings would throw in more, and we could then get Jeremi Grant and another forward too, a long with Haliburton.

Yes, I think we all agree that we're not breaking up the core unless the core forces that. This is still a fun exercise though.

Haliburton is breaking out, and this is exactly the type of gamble you consider if you're the Bucks. (and obviously you get Hield to come with).

The comp on this deal is when the Showtime Lakers traded Norm Nixon for then young draft pick Byron Scott. It was one hell of a gamble, but paid off in extending their championship window further.

Anything involving Jrue should be a non starter, he has been elite this year and looks like he’s improved his shot too.

Khris, a very small chance you get a deal worth taking. I feel like the same fans that complain about star loyalty are the first to stick the same players into a trade at the first chance they get.

Hali would be great and is obviously from Wisconsin so that would be cool but there’s no way they trade him. Only other players I could imagine we looked at were Harkless, Barnes and Len. Would think matching salary for Barnes would be difficult though

Yeah, trade isn't about this year. If I'm Giannis and IF Midds in the playoffs looks like Midds from the rest of his career instead of Moist Jordan and Jrue has a similar playoff performance (which was very inconsistent), I probably think about leaving. You are 28 years old and tied to a a team maxed out with 2 aging guards and zero cap flexibility. We basically need to keep winning championships to keep this roster viable. Maybe we are that good, but I have us more in contender category than dynasty category since it is so hard to win a championship.

I dont have the balls to break up this team, but if we don't have a ring in the next 18 months (hell even six months) I dont see any way the owners don't blow up a team that has a Top 5 salary slot with declining stars. Do you in Midds and Jrue enough now or do you try to be proactive?

My focus on the NBA hasn't been super high this year, but I see trade rumors about Jalen Smith and am now realizing he no longer appears to be the buy-low candidate I was hoping for as a backup big. He seemed to be a great fit for us coming out of Maryland and seems like things have started to click for him this year.

Imo, Middleton > Jrue despite his bad form this season.

What Middleton does on the offensive side of the ball is very rare for his size. It's practically impossible to replace his production from the (s)wing positions. Can't say the same thing about Jrue. The PG position is probably the deepest one in the league. Obviously, Jrue is a terrific defender. Personally speaking, I value offense more than defense. Not to mention, PGs are probably the least important players when it comes to defense. They don't have the size to switch on taller opponents or/and protect the rim. All they usually do is they press the ball. Positions aren't equally valuable on both ends of the floor. It's relatively easy to hide a weak defensive guard, whereas it's way more difficult to hide a weak defensive Center.

Imo, he will never become as good as Middleton. He isn't explosive enough to create separation from his defender, hence he cannot consistently create his own shot. They way I see it, he's a low-usage, pass-first ball handler. He'd be the perfect glue guy for any team. I love his game, but I think he's overrated right now.

All this talk about Jrue and Middleton "aging/declining" in the next 1-2 years, yet you look around the league at the top contenders and the ages of their core guys....

PHX: Paul (36)
GS: Curry (33), Klay (31 on a bum knee), Dray (31)
BKN: Durant (33), Harden (32)
MIA: Butler (32), Lowry (35)
LAC: Kawhi (30 and on a bum knee), George (31 and may be out for the year)

Which one of those front offices seriously considers blowing up the core as soon as this offseason?

I think we will see some cap casualties to the core as soon as next year.

I just don’t think the status quo is a sustainable model for these owners. Not sure what/who gives but I’d be listening to deals if I were Horst.
