Do you use winter tires on your GTI?

I don’t, and I know that I should.

Yeah, if you like your car enough right now, you could consider getting a winter set. Generally, a car with winter tires, regardless of whether it’s FWD or RWD, will be better in the snow and ice than an AWD with all-season tires.

Counter point - new cars are fun :D

Counter point accepted and agreed with. I’ve been salivating over the new Ioniq 5, and would love to get one, but they are very hard to get ahold of right now.

Probably just going to go with a 22 accord sport. **** drives so much better compared to other mid sizes just feels wrong to get anything else.

Finally got someone to sell me a 22 Accord at MSRP, should be here in May. My first brand new car. Car dealer at KIA almost sold me a K5 but came back with another 1000 on the price at the last moment and I walked, he called me the next day with the 1000 off again and I told him he just sold a brand new accord congrats. Got my first choice so Im happy but damn car dealers are like if a politician and a lawyer had a baby.

Congrats on the new car! Selling to them at the beginning of the pandemic, summer 2020, was quite fun. I traded in my old Civic - a 3 years old, fully loaded, ~$30k car with completely broken A/C - for just over $21k. They ate the cost of fixing the A/C. They just kept going up to the point it was impossible for me to say no. They just needed cars so desperately at the time. It's been a wild few years.

Yeah used market is insane, I see 21 accords with my trim going for 5 to 8k more used.

So the famous Watkins Glen track here in the Finger Lakes/Western NY region opens the track for public use (for about $28) for a few laps, and it's always a good time. The way Northeast winters here have shifted they start later and end later (well into April with cold snaps, flurries) in the last few years. Someone decided it was a smart idea to have Opening Weekend on April 9th, a full 2-3 weeks earlier than usual.

I've taken my Alfa Romeo Giulia (Veloce trim) to the track once in 2019 and it was fun, but I had Pirelli A/S tires which are meh. I have the Firehawk Indy 500's on her but I'm annoyed that I probably wont go that weekend 'cause guaranteed it'll still be hovering in the 40s.

Although I am considering doing a Driving School weekend that some organizations offer at the Watkins Glen track. A friend of mine did it with his BMW 435i and he said it was well-worth it. Anyone here track their car? Does it vaporize brake pads? I replaced my pads and rotors last April.

I mean depends on how you drive if you smoke the brakes, but man Finger Lakes is a beautiful area.

There are some beautiful, scenic driving roads throughout the region too.

Yeah I spent a weekend on Kekua lake? Super cool place to just cruise around and taste some wine. Far enough from the tristate that it seems pretty chill still

Keuka Lake has an awesome, long straight state route (54 I think) along the East side of the lake where I got up to around 130ish once. It's one of the few lakes that has road alongside the water.

Honda is getting swooped by me tomorrow, for all the supply chain problems I have heard about it was super quick from when the car was built to when I am going to have it. Exactly one week.

The Vibe is finally dying…looking for suggestions for used small/mid size SUV’s at a friendly price, wife doesn’t want to buy new.

Agreed. Used car prices are absurd right now. It'll be cheaper if you find something at like a mom-and-pop used lot, but it's still likely to be absurd comparatively. Certified from dealerships, used are virtually the same price as new right now. It's unfortunately just a rough time to buy a car.

All of that said, I'd suggest the Hyundai Kona if she was a fan of the Vibe. Fun subcompact with some personality.

We have a Subaru Forester that's a bit over 5 years old (Jan 2017), we tried pretty much every similar car at the time and settled on it mainly because the interior seemed a lot larger than the rest. I'm not sufficiently in to cars to care about too much more, but my beloved is a little lead footed and she thought it performed the best as well). I'm guessing that's about the age for a used one- we've not really cared for it all that well and it seems to still be in perfect condition, upkeep on it is quite modest and it's enjoyable to drive and pretty easy to get around in/park in tight parking spaces. Very quick to fold back seats up/down for large storage space, lots of anchor points as well. We live in a mountain region, does well going up and down the hills and feels pretty safe driving on ice/in snow as well.

The occasional wash and clean and I feel like I'm some fancy guy driving around in his new car (note: as above, not really into cars so I'm sure others wouldn't think that!).

Yeah dude, used is absurd. The accord I just got is selling last years model for more than i paid for the new car with literally 4 miles on the damn thing. If your deadset on SUV basically any major brand is going to be reliable and good nowadays, but I must say I enjoy the feel of the Honda and i know HRVs and CRVS get great reviews, but there is literally no reason to go used unless you need the car right now.
