What do ya need, what do ya need? You want it, I got it. I got long straws, I got short straws. I got straight straws, I got bendy straws. Every color of the rainbow, right here. You want crazy straws? I got straws crazier than Charlie Sheen on a coke binge. Can’t get these inside folks, last chance right here.

Nothing screams sustainable like occupying the land equivalent to two city blocks and utilizing countless tons of resources while emiting countless tons of carbon build a single basketball court for 10 guys to play on because the last monstrous court was 30 years old and not profitable enough.

Reminder everyone, politics and religion (no matter how small the comment) is not allowed. In this thread or any other. I cleaned up a couple of posts. Let's keep on the topic. Thanks.

I've heard there will be an event before the Hart show on 9/13 (lots of tix available) but so far nothing has been announced.

Good response. At least they limited shovel expenditures.

This is incredibly true and funny. I do think it is admirable to limit waste whenever possible, on all levels. But there is humor in the scale of pollution and carbon footprint.... from arena management patting themselves on the back for banning straws as 20,000 cars drive in and out the city 42 nights a year to watch sports. Someone had a gif of beating a dead horse, but the real gif needs to be the owners sitting on a high horse. While fat people sit below drinking large sodas, without straws.

So instead of getting rid of straws they should have just built a big-ass bus to pick everybody up on game nights.

That is not what I said, I even went so far as to say the straw ban was the right move. My point, was that it is tiny gesture in the grand scheme of the shadow of the arena's own environmental shadow.

But great job exaggerating one aspect of my point, and insinuating that as a result the whole point was meaningless. My 9 year old does that a lot too.

I don't think I exaggerated your point. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but you're essentially saying that straw bans are great, but it doesn't matter all that much when arenas and their operations generate so much pollution. I guess that's true, but what are the owners, on their 'high horse', supposed to do? Tell people to ride their bicycles to games?

They should have gone for LEED certification:

The Milwaukee Bucks’ new Wisconsin Entertainment & Sports Center is being built with an eye to reducing the arena’s footprint, ensuring energy efficiency, and furthering sustainability. The Bucks have contracted with Johnson Controls to create the arena as a “smart building” that the organization says will be “the gold standard for a sports and entertainment facility.”

This organization has already shown a strong commitment to going green by recycling and reusing older materials, such as Jason Terry.

I was just pointing out the ridiculousness of starting a "sustainability" effort in the name of literally one of the most frivolous, resource heavy projects in the history of human kind (pretty much this side of any Olympic Village). A project designed solely for rich people to watch ridiculously rich people play basketball. A project whose life span is to be measured in years rather than centuries. Until the next one needs to be built because the public is demanding even WIDER concourses and seats. And cup holders! More cup holders! Tear it down! Build another.

I am in favor of not using any single use plastic, but this is the rough equivalent of a guy with a sprinkler system that waters his 4 acre yard of grass twice a day starting a "water conservation" effort by pledging to turn off the faucet between rinses of his tooth brush.

The environmental challenges we face as a planet require whole sale policy changes in the way we eat, generate energy, and treat our oceans. Straws are just noise hoping to score points on something that has become recently fashionable.
